On Saturday, December 8, registration opens and activities begin for the 2012 Metropolitan DC Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis at 8:00 am at Pentagon Row in Arlington. The gun goes off at 9:00, and the children’s Reindeer Run will take off at 9:05. Participants tie jingle bells to their shoelaces, wear festive costumes, and run through the streets in support of the Arthritis Foundation. Registration details can be found on the event website, or come early and register on race day at Pacer’s of Pentagon Row at 1101 S. Joyce Street in Arlington.

The Manassas Ballet presents Nutcracker – A Salute to the Military on Friday December 14 at 7:30 pm at the Hylton Performing Arts Center. This is the opening night of the season for The Nutcracker, and the company will honor service men and women both current and retired. All active duty, reserve and retired military personnel can receive a free ticket to this event, and everyone accompanying them will receive a 20% discount off the ticket price. Tickets can be purchased either online through tickets.com or in person at the Hylton Center.

The Virginia Bronze Handbell Ensemble will gather in the auditorium at the George Washington Masonic Memorial in Alexandria on Sunday, December 16 at 4:00 pm to present Music for Frosty Festivities, a frolic through the holidays with music. The ensemble is a community organization that seeks to advance the art of English handbell ringing. Tickets for the event may either be purchased online or at the door.

Throughout all of December, Ford’s Theatre in Washington will present A Christmas Carol with evening performances at 7:30 pm and weekend matinees at 2:00 pm.
