The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has posted a list of clandestine meths labs across the U.S. Before you buy a new home, start by taking a look at their list. If you don’t find the house you’re thinking about buying on the list, don’t assume that the home is safe. The list posted by the DEA is an ongoing list of meth lab homes that is voluntarily provided to them by local and state law enforcement agencies. Law enforcement agencies are not obligated to provide the DEA, a federal agency, with a listing of the meth lab homes in their jurisdiction.
Important note: There is no meth lab home list that is as accurate and reliable as hiring a professional to test the home for contamination from meth lab chemicals. Keep in mind that testing a home strictly for “meth” is not enough to protect your health. Homes where meth has been manufactured are often contaminated with several toxic chemicals.
