If you have been a Marin homeowner for any length of time, you could probably drive to Home Depot in your sleep. Before I bought a home, I could never have imagined how much money I would spend at Home Depot, even if you aren't a do-it-yourselfer. So, when we first moved to Marin and someone tried to describe how to actually get to Home Depot in San Rafael, I was horrified.

Highway 101. Exit Sir Francis Drake. Past San Quentin. Get on the 580. Immediately get off again. Go under the Freeway, down the frontage road.

YIKES! Over the mountain and through the woods- I may never return home! If it seems daunting, I promise you will one day be able to find all of the home improvement stores in your sleep. Until then, you can check out this map with details out the major home improvement spots in southern and central Marin County.

We have a Home Depot about 5 miles away and another one about 15 mies and a Lowe's about 20. Plus a local type Lumber Company real close too that is only a mile and a half away.

Ginger...

I know it's weird to say it but...

Home Depot is one of my favorite stores. The one near us knows my name. Pretty bad huh?

By the way...Every time I look at your profile pic I think about growing my hair back :)

TLW...ROAR!

Ginger...something tells me you've done the Google maps before this challenge! This one is terriffic.

Can't tell you how important it is to be in an area that is close to 1 of the big 3.  Home Depot, Menards, or Lowes.  We have all 3 within 2 miles of each other.

Ginger - I like home depot and Lowes as well.  I can always find wonderful projects for my house!  It is a wonder my husband allows me to go along.  :)  I have Home Depot's within 3-4 miles in different directions.

Ginger, you must have a good number of do-it-yourselfers out there with all those hardware stores.  I'm fortunate to have a Home Depot within walking distance and 4 or 5 others within a 20 minute drive.  When we first purchased our condo, we practically lived in Home Depot for the first few weeks.

JAY- My favorite is Rafael Lumber.  It is a smaller, local company with phenomenal service that you just don't get at Home Depot.  More expensive, but worth it if you have to ask questions!

TLW- I like Home Depot too.  So do my kids.  For some reason, I don't get in trouble spending money there like I would at a clothing store!   I am blessed with hair o'plenty.   EVERY hairdresser I have ever used says I could qualify for the guness book of world records!!

JOAN- Incorrect!! This was my first time with the google maps, but I am hooked now!

LARRY- We don't have menards or lowes.  Too small of a community.  Pretty much the home depot and the smaller ACE style stores.

CANDY- We often make the trek to Home Depot as a family outing!  My son says," go to the depo.  I go!"  :o)

BRIAN-  It looks like a lot of stores, but not really.  The Home Depot is relatively small.  Rafael is a local, higher end store and the OSH and ACE hardware are small.  I think we have a lot of do-it-yourself wannabees!
