Moving?... Open ME First...

Moving?  Always Have an OPEN ME first box!

Moving is so stressful…  one tip to help make moving day a little bit easier is to have an OPEN ME first box… and be sure to put colored tape or stickers on the box so it stands out from the crowd of all the other boxes that look the same!

Open Me First boxThe contents of this box … should contain the essentials you’ll need to help you and your family take a shower, make breakfast, and tools to re-install any broken down furniture – usually beds!  Clean towels and bedding are also essential. And don’t forget your child or pet’s favorite toy… having something familiar around for them will make the transition a little bit easier.

As a moving organizer, PHA likes to wrap a box in colored paper tape… and while pink is not usually a ‘stand out’ color, it was the only colored tape handy at the time for this box :D

Anything you can do to reduce some stress during a move is a good thing…

A Happy Move is an Organized Move!

This is a good reminder Peggy. The 'essentials box' should travel in the front seat or back of the automobile or near the door of the moving truck so it does'nt get missplaced in the shuffle.

Thanks for sharing your ideas. All the best to you in the new year...2013.

Thanks for stopping by Cooper... and, yes, I always have this box put on the moving truck last so it comes off first!

Hi Peggy - That's a great tip. We have spent tons of time looking for those necessary items we forgot were necessary, and they're always in the last box, of course.

Excellent idea - moving almost always gets so hectic and exhausting that this could be just the tip to help prevent a meltdown!

Very good advice. I've moved three times in the last ten years and this is a lesson I learned, too. I actually stage my things in three groups. 1. Things to open that first day (as you advise) so we can live and go to bed that night. 2. Things to open over the next couple days to set up house keeping and 3. Things that can be left in the garage for now, to be opened and put away over the next few weeks.

Of course it's the last box, Dick! -  Probably because it's one of the first boxes off the truck that the movers bury under all the other boxes!!

Now that's a comfort, Nancy. Wouldn't want anyone to have a melt down on this traumatic day!

That's a great plan, Gretchen... one that's helpful when you move yourself, or if you use a moving company!

Now this is a great idea.  Because I am never going to move again I will pass it on.  I swear I learn something new every day on AR.

Glad I could be of help, Liz!  I'm like you, I am NEVER going to move again... where I'm living now is the longest I've been at any one address in my entire life - and it's great.

LOL Peggy - I think the meltdown I'm contemplating is my own - we're working toward a "simplifying" move after twenty years in the same house. Gee, I wish your business was here!!!!
