In the 2011 Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair 11 TPHS students placed first in their categories and the TPHS science teacher, Julia Newman, won teacher of the year for the Science Fair.

The TPHS football team that is always a strong contender (and undefeated in their league again) the school also boasts many CIF championships in sports like soccer, golf, swimming, lacrosse and tennis and CIF finalists in water polo and basketball. Many of the athletes get scholarships to distinguished schools such as Notre Dame, Stanford and USC in recognition of their skills and accomplishments.  One of the baseball players on the boys team was even drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 40th round!
