When listing homes, we often counsel sellers on what to do with the family dogs during showings. Nobody likes to be surprised when they open the door and find a dog staring back at them. Even less exciting is walking through the yard on the exterior tour and discovering that you've just stepped in a big, steaming pile of "processed dog food". If you're a dog owner, you must understand that cleaning up the mess is part of the responsibility. And if you've got your house on the market, it's even more imperative that you're on top of the chore.
The good news is if you'd rather not get your hands dirty, there are often local services that will do it for you. Here in the Washington area, there are at least two: DoodyCalls and Pet Butler.
Another thing to remember, when touring houses, we often ask our clients to give them nicknames to help them remember the houses. Do you want yours to be known as the "Poop House" . . . or worse?
Call or eMail Gregory for a personalized report or to buy or sell any home anywhere in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area!
Gregory, It's a shame they don't think to pick it up but we have a service here as well where they will come and "clean" up after your pet every week...Wow, there is a need for everything :)
Gregory, this is very, very funny. If I see old Fang in the back yard, I tend not to go out the back door. God forbid I should put my Ferregamo-clad foot into reprocessed dog food!
Gregory, this post brings back memories - growing up, myr family basically abandoned our backyard to our dog, and we had one pair of shoes at the back door labeled "The Dog S*** Shoes" that we all slipped on if we had to go back there. We certainly NEVER could have marketed our house without massive cleanup.
Heather, I'm glad I brought back memories of your childhood . . . though I'm not sure they're pleasant ones. The PetButler folks just came through my back yard making it safe to tread without the S*** Shoes! :-)
I love the nickname idea and it also gives you an idea of how they felt about the house by what they named it...I can see why **** house could be a bad nickname!
Hi Gregory, I just did a virtual tour of a very large beautiful home, with 3 cats and 2 dogs. They followed me around the house most of the time, getting in quite a few shots which had to be redone. I love pets, I just wish their owners would have more common sense sometimes!
Pets are wonderful! However, when a home is on the market, the pets should not be on the property or the Buyers should not smell them either.......in many ways, shapes, or forms. :)
