Whether you set up your own website or hire someone to do it for you, the initial website process is fairly easy to do. However, after the setup is done, creating a website that produces the results you’re looking for is a whole other challenge. There’s several aspects involved in determining whether or not your website is performing as it should, but most people have no idea what these aspects are.
If you’re just testing the online waters or hosting personal stuff, it’s really not that big of a deal. For those who are setting up a website for their business, a properly functioning/performing website is key to their success.
So, does your website work?To answer that question you need to start from the beginning.
- Go through your website as if you were a visitor, check all your links and make sure everything looks nice and works as intended. We have all gone to websites where they had buttons that led to incomplete or "under construction" parts of the site. That sort of thing is absolutely unacceptable for a business website.
By simply going through and clicking on everything and verifying it all works as intended, you can save yourself a lot of grief down the road. It sounds like a common sense thing to do, but you would be surprised at how many people forget this simple, yet crucial step.
- Ask yourself, “Does your website work the way it should?". Going through your website and checking all links is important, but that is just the technical aspect of it. Are people seeing your site?
- Ensure it is getting traffic. There are a lot of web designers out there who can design a very pretty and nice looking website, but unless that website is built to utilize SEO, no one will even know it exists.
- You want to be able to freely and easily modify your website to account for changes Google and other search engines make. You want your website optimized so that it utilizes all aspects of SEO and gets on the first page.
A successful website is not just about its aesthetic appeal or making sure all the buttons and links are working properly. All these things are important but, if it’s not attracting visitors, it’s not working to complete capacity for your business. Make sure your site is visually appealing and easy to navigate but don’t forget the important of search engine optimization. This crucial step is the only way you’ll get people visiting your website and making your phone ring.
