2012 Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce Holiday House Tour Slideshows
Back on Saturday, December 1st, the Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce held their 2012 Holiday House Tour from 10:00am to 4:00pm. The event was well attended, with somewhere around 400 people touring the six houses. If you were one of those who braved the chilly weather that day, you got to see some truly beautifully decorated homes. However, if you wanted to go and couldn’t make it, here’s your chance to see some of what you missed!
1 Old Tavern Lane (The Rising Sun Tavern), North Haven
Built in the mid-1700’s, the Rising Sun Tavern is a prime example of an 18th century Georgian home. It was placed on the National Register of Historic places in 1979. The tavern served as the first rest stop for stagecoaches traveling form New Haven to Boston in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was fully restored in 1996 as a private residence. The detail and hand hewn woodwork is amazing and many interesting artifacts have been found in and around the building. The barn next door was originally in Branford and was dismantled, brought to Wallingford and rebuilt next to the house.
777 Mount Carmel Avenue, North Haven
This gorgeous Greek Revival/Neoclassical home was built in 2000 – 2001 by its current owner. Standing on an 11.5 acre parcel, the house boasts over 11,000 square feet and a six car garage. The architectural granite on the exterior was hand carved in China. The columns in the main portico weigh 8.5 tons each, while the columns in the interior foyer are from Brazil and weigh just under one ton each. One of the highlights of the home is the taxidermy room, which contains 54 animals ranging from small deer to the centerpiece of the room, the huge African Bull Elephant head.
1 Wheatfield Drive, Wallingford
This beautiful French Country style home built in 1995 boasts over 3,200 square feet and amazing style and curb appeal. A two story foyer greets visitors, while the formal living room sports 10 foot ceilings and a fireplace. 410 Williams Road, Wallingford
A beautiful custom built Colonial style home set on a lovely level lot. A circular driveway leads you to the gracious front entrance where you’re welcomed by the elegant foyer and hardwood floors. The kitchen begs for entertaining, with its cherry wood cabinetry, huge center island and connecting dining room. The warm and inviting fireplace in the formal living room completes this charming home.
24 Academy Street, Wallingford
Known locally as the Samuel Lewis House, this post and beam home was originally built in 1805 on North Main Street on the site of the current police station and later moved to Academy Street in 1919. Designed in the Georgian style, the home has kept its period charm, even after being added on to and modernized over the years by successive owners. The original footprint and room layout are still evident, as are the original corner posts. Its construction was so sound that when it was moved in 1919, it was said that the materials used to build the house were still very solid and much better than those then available.
6 Stoney Brook Road, Wallingford
Built in 2005, this 5,000 square foot home was designed in the castle-like European Colonial style and commands a breathtaking view. Some of the many features of this marvelous home are the turret, which contains a spiral staircase; Brazilian cherry floors, custom cherry wood cabinets, a floor-to-ceiling fireplace, a four car garage, in-ground pool and very spacious grounds.
