I can't think of a better "Off-Off Broadway" production to see this holiday season other than "A Christmas Story." One of the most beloved Christmas movies of all time is now playing live at the historic Woodlawn Theatre.

If you know me, you know I love anything historical so this show brings together a historical venue with a 1930's themed show.  Check back with me next week to see my review!

A CHRISTMAS STORY
A young boy named Ralphie Parker only wants one thing for Christmas: a Red Ryder BB gun. However, he is not sure he will ever make it to Christmas, between his brother Randy and the school bully Scut Farkus. Based on the well-loved movie, 'A Christmas Story' is off the screen this year and alive on stage. So leave the "Chinese turkey" at home and enjoy some holiday fun with us! ABOUT WOODLAWN THEATRE

As you drive west of downtown, up the historic street of Fredericksburg Road, you won’t have driven far without being told or recalling that “way back when” a movie or two was seen at the ever-elegant and glamorous Woodlawn Theatre. The Woodlawn Theatre originally opened in 1946.  The legendary John Wayne hosted the world premiere of his movie The Alamo here in 1960.

You will also be told that the Woodlawn Theatre, while a venue of esteem and prestige in the 60’s and 70’s, fell upon hard times and was forced to shut down. Tragically, it suffered many years on life support with multiple owners frivolously attempting to resuscitate its former glory. But now, the poor ghost of John Wayne may rest in peace; the theatrical resurrection of the Woodlawn Theatre is well underway.

The Woodlawn Theatre is ushering in a new generation of talent under the direction of owners, Kurt and Sherry Wehner. The future of the Woodlawn Theatre promises to be “red carpet” worthy on so many levels. Now that the theatre is a designated landmark with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, private donors are encouraged to help raise funds to truly restore this iconic treasure of San Antonio.

Cathy: That is one of my favorite Christmas movies (right behind It's a Wonderful Life).  I bet this off-broadway production at the historic Woodlawn Theatre is a crowd favorite.

WOW! Cathy. I just love that movie, and I would love to go and check out the Historical Woodlawn Theater, since I haven't been there since the 60's.
