Don't Run Red Lights in Burleson, TX

Beginning February 25 you won't be able to get away with running a red light in Burleson, TX.   The City Council approved the use of red light cameras on August 9, 2007 and they will be operational on the 25th of Feb.

The City Council believes that even the word of them being operational will cause the effects to be felt immediately. The fine for running a red light will be $75 and a late fee of  $50 if not paid on time. Police Chief Tom Cowan said there will be a 30 day grace period from the day the cameras become active.

So, if you're driving down State Hwy 174 (Wilshire Blvd.) in Burleson be careful! You sure don't want your picture taken for running a red light.

Linda, those little suckers really do work!  Someone told me that you can buy a license plate cover that bounces the light back some way that they can't get a good photo.  But I haven't been able to find one.  Either they are illegal or sold out or both!

Hi Linda,
I know someone who was traveling out of state and received a letter in the mail with a photo of his car's license tag with the date, time and location along with a ticket.

Patricia - If you find a place to buy one please share! I'm guilty of those little rolling stops at stop signs..heaven forbid if they start putting cameras there!

Cynthia - I've heard they send a picture, but this is all new here and I'm curious to see how they really work and if they're accurate.

Linda, I know this is becoming popular, they have cameras all over The Woodlands but I don't know that they have got to the point of mailing tickets yet.  I really have a problem with big brother looking over our shoulder like that.  We went to visit our son when he was stationed in Germany and rented a car; we had a charge come off our credit card and still don't know what we did.  It wasn't much like a ticket here though.  When we moved our daughter form Manhattan to Kew Garden we parked in front of a "no standing sign" and that ticket was $115 but they did just put it on the car.  We had no idea that "no standing" met "no parking."  I'm going to blame those tickets on my children (lol).

Linda~You better not run any red lights in Texas :)  They should really do that here in Utah. What a great way to keep people doing the right thing.

Linda - I hope you don't have a lead foot going through the intersection. Yellow to me means speed up to make sure you make it :)

Marchel - Blaming them on your kids is a good of excuse that I know of! LOL I think it is a big intrusion of Big Brother!

Julie - I'm just not sure of how accurate they really are..I think that's my problem with them.

Tom - We'll have to see if they're accurate when they begin using them.

Bill - I think yellow means the same thing to me! LOL

Linda, sounds like a great idea to me, all towns should install them.  If anything the fine is to low, running a red light is very dangerous, and can cause a very serious accident and loss of life.

George, it is a very serious thing. I'm all for them being installed. The only problem I have is them ticketing the wrong person. I just don't know how it's all going to work.

Do they plan to cut back on the police staff. In Franklin we have so much traffic that it's impossible to speed, so the police have to write tickets for every thing they can think of. I was given a ticket for something called a bad turn. Even the judge didn't know what that meant, but he made me pay the fine anyway. Strange things happen when police departments depend on tickets to fund the organization. It's easy to increase staff, just write more tickets. Unfortunately, the tickets they are writing in Franklin are not to improve the safety, but to increase revenue.

Big Brother is watching, and he wants your money

Larry, everytime I'm out and about here in Burleson I see someone stopped for something. I'm sure it is a revenue making venture or they would spend the money to install them.

I remember when I lived in TN you couldn't make a right on a red light. When I moved to Texas and had to take my driver's test to get licensed the State Trooper asked me what I was waiting on at the light and I told him I wasn't allowed to turn right on red and he said you can in Texas. Felt weird to me, although you can go right on red in TN now I believe.

We don't have that up here....yet anyway. Hopefully we'll never have it. How spooky...big brother watching.

Sounds like a bargain.  In California, the fine is$351!!

01/28/2008 03:56 PM by Ginger Wilcox, Marin County Realtor (Pacific Union, Marin Real Estate)

Moni - when the police department and city hall find out what a revenue builder it is, you'll get them!

Ginger - Yikes!!! That's a LOT of fine!

Linda,
I corrected the mindless error I made earlier in haste  this A.M.  Sorry!

Cynthia...that's ok..I've done the same thing before..more than once!

with only one traffic light in La Pine it is often easy to forget it is there - it has only been there for a year and even I occasionally forget it is there -

I couldn't imagine one traffic light! I would forget about it, too.
