If you have not visited Richmond in the last 20 years or so, you are in for a fine experience. A massive transformation for the better has taken place with taste and artistic sense.
Virginia Commonwealth University with its 32,000 students has spearheaded the renewal of downtown with continued expansion. A billion dollar plan is in place to carry the university's growth through 2020.
No more fleeing to the suburbs. Old tobacco factories are being turned into residential lofts and retail spaces. Restaurants and nightlife flourish.
Twenty Five years ago I used to go to Richmond once a month and could not wait to leave for Northern Virginia.... which has everything any human would normally want.
BUT now I want to go to Richmond to enjoy how they have combined the best of the old with the well done new.
I ate sheepshead (a fish), potato pancake, brussell sprouts on cauliflower puree with locally brewed stout in a pink and aqua restaurant after 10 pm.
Yeah...I'm a hipster.
