Bragging about an ex-student, now a competitor.....and his listing of historic hotel in Letona Arkansas.

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Advantage

When I taught Art at Searcy High I had several students who have now wound up as competitors of mine in this real estate business.

One of my favorites was David Lorton.  He actually got himself an art degree and then switched to business, worked all over the country with Wal-Mart and other businesses and has now become a very good real estate agent.

His newest listing belongs on this blog.  He has listed the old hotel at Letona!  And he put the old picture of it in with his current pictures!  NOW, that is an artist for you!  He appreciates history, art, and architecture.  First, let's see the old view.

And the old hotel still stands!  With pride.  Here is the current view and it is for sale!

The MLS listing is 10335755 if you want to see the inside.  Thanks, David Lorton, for doing both views!

I have always loved this house in Letona.  I took pictures of it several years ago.  I've spent many a summer in Letona where my grandmother lived, and where my mother was born.

The lady who was the recreation directer at the nursing home where my mother was, owned the house then.  She was instrumental in arranging for the Mayor of Searcy to come to the nursing home and present mother a key to the city, on her l00th birthday.

I think it a nice thing for you to show a competetor's showing.

Barbara, I think of you more as a friend in the real estate business instead of a competitor. In the past we had a lot of Art in common, but have both found our way in another career. I remember buying my house from you when I moved back to Searcy, and referring my wife's parents to you when they decided to move here from Mississippi. They were surprised when you gave them a few drawings I had done back in the early 1980's while in your Searcy High Art classes. You are the best! Thanks for the kind words, now lets find a Buyer that wants to stroll back in memory lane and own the Latona Hotel.

Anita, I think we blogged a picture of your mother at this depot but I am too swamped to go find the picture.  Shall we call on Don?

David, thanks for the kind words.  I really was pleased to look through your pictures and find the old picture also.  I am proud of you and your success in the real estate world!

1910...that is really something.  Ms. Barbara you don't have any competitors you are the mentor.  There is only one Ms. Barbara.

I love he picture of the woman sitting at the station...she looks like a movie star from a silent film.  Did I understand that she is Anita's mom?  That is so special.

Debbie, I agree with you regarding Anita's mother and the picture of her at the station.  She appears posed and poised for a great photo shoot!

My wife and I bought the old Letona Hotel July 26, 2013.  We are in the process of setting it up as a ministry house for pastors, missionaries, and other ministry workers in our association of Baptist churches.

We started looking for a house not long after my wife Nancy and I married.  We were getting ready to go to a singing one Saturday in April, 2013, when I found the listing for the old hotel.  I showed it to my wife, and her comment was: "That's my home!"

And now, it is.

We would really like to find any other photos of this house that people might have.  Here's a link to my album on Facebook of photos we took on our first walkthrough of the house.  The album is set to be shared publicly, so you should be able to view the photos even if you're not on Facebook, or on my friends list:
