How is you Office Staff?

By
Real Estate Agent with BCR Realtors 262359

No doubt one of the keys to success in a real estate firm is a quality staff including your receptionist, and other employees. There is nothing more important than a friendly voice greeting potential clients and making them comfortable. First impressions count when shopping for a home And when shopping for a broker.

It is really unsettling to be greeted by a grumpy receptionist or one with bad manners.  I recall one office that had the same receptionist for many years. She had this terribly raspy smoker's voice and until the smoking ordinances came into effect, she always had a butt going at her desk.  Pretty bad indeed.  I can only guess at the lost business experienced by that office due to her.

It is so important to have a well trained staff that is dependable and on time.  Seems that many businesses feel that the reception position is not that important and therefore they hire minimally qualified people that just don't last.  Been there...done that.  It doesn't work.

Go for the gold when selecting staff.

Trey, those first impressions can make all the difference in the world.  One of the receptionist at a place I call often has a baby type voice and it about drives me nuts.  I expect she is very nice though; and I keep telling myself that when she answers the phone.

Trey I could not agree more. One of the key position is the first person that comes in contact with anyone from outside the firm.  They set the tone, the image and the future of any business.  Nice post Trey.

Marchel,

Oh yes I am familiar with the baby voice...can't understand them.  They are sweet but we have had to ask some helpers to cut it out. They don't realize they are doing it!

Trey,

Many companies don't even have job descriptions for their office staff.  If you really want to hold your office staff accountable you must have it in writing.  Click on the link and check out my blog on this very topic.  I hope you find this valuable and can use it.

You brought up a good subject that often get's overlooked. I have changed from very good doctors because of the poor attitude I had encountered from their staff - good practitioners with good bed-side manners and it made no difference to me if they couldn't select the same good character for their support staff. I also refer out a lot of attorneys and had stopped referring out a few recently when their paralegals and office assistants copped attitudes. Anybody who is answering phones and servicing customers should have a can-do attitude and come across like they are willing to roll up their sleeves.

Jonathan

Really I wish the real estate business in general would offer more "stuff" like training , awards, etc. for admins. They are our backbone.
