Derek and I had the opportunity to spend the day showing homes for sale to an awesome couple from Deluth, Minnesota today. They are out here for a couple days to figure out exactly WHERE in Colorado Springs they want to live.

Derek and I met Mr. and Mrs. S in the morning and began our tour of homes for sale. This tour consisted of town homes in Rockrimmon, single family homes for sale in Oak Valley Ranch, town homes in Pinon Valley and town homes for sale in Holland Park.

It was amazing the variety of homes that fit their criteria. Some were in amazing condition - model like even, while others were, well, NOT model-like whatsoever. The tough decision boils down to:

  • "Do you pay more for a home that has been completely updated and needs NO work?" This would apply to a beautiful 3 bed town home with amazing wood floors. Or
  • "Do you chose a home that needs work, but costs less?" This would apply to the bank-owned home with all the appliances and light fixtures torn out and Cheerios on the floor, but offerd a studio apartment above the garage.

Finding a home is always an adventure and the answer to these questions is a personal question that we can never answer for our clients (well, friends in this case...).

Anyway, back to the adventure part ...

In the NW part of Colorado Springs, wildlife is abundant. And when I say abundant, I mean deer everywhere. Deer at your back door. Deer crossing the street. Deer staring at you - wondering why you are taking a picture of them ...

And where there are deer, there are deer droppings. In fact deer droppings were one of the themes to our trip today. They seemed to be almost everywhere. Like here ... and here ...

The other theme to our house hunting trip today was prints. No, not Van Gogh paintings or mountain lion tracks, but human prints in odd places. First there was the obvious "use a hand to balance yourself while you (a man) are using the bathroom" handprint above the toilet. Ick. I would think someone would have washed the wall, but this WAS the bank-owned home with Cheerios on the floor and no appliances...

Then there was the oddly placed footprint on the ceiling, near the fan. No. I have no idea...

We looked at about 10 homes, today. And like other home showing trips ... It is always an adventure!

How many seller's cancelled showings. I'm having bad luck on the weekends with sellers reschedulling showings or cancelling all together. I'm trying to picture how the footprints got on the ceiling. I'm sure it happened easier then I imagined. Hope no one got hurt and that is why the home got foreclosed.

Mariana, I'm laughing at the footprint on the ceiling...my 12 yr old has those too (above the bunk bed!)

The handprint I can identify with...  If the guy liked to work in the garage, and didn't get the grease off of his hands, it won't come off the wall with anything less than a repaint... after sealing.

For the foot, I got nothing...

Hi Mariana,

For me...I would rather pay less and redo it the way I want to change it...it really all depends on whether or not the decor is adequate for someone and whether or not they are willing to renovate. I just think if you can add in the costs to renovate it yourself they way you want it is better in the long run but some people would settle to just not do the work and enjoy the way it is at the sale.

With the footprint - I am picturing a child trying to climb on the fan to spin with glee and somehow doing a flip in the process - thus the footprint.

Don't you find the strangest stuff some times? I know I've walked into houses that have obviously had walls, doors or windows moved. All in all, stuff that makes you say hummmm........

I was in a home Saturday with clients, a bank owned home whose last occupant was a brilliant carpenter. . . In the attice was a was build directly on top of a heating vent. . . I think it was so they could heat two rooms from one register!  Genious!

Yuck...on the hand prints in the bathroom!

Sometimes we see some pretty weird things when we show houses.

I need to write down all the stories from showings in our past. The sleeping people, the dead angel fish ... !

My theory on the footprint on the ceiling. Of course there must have been a bug and the closest thing to mash it with was of course a shoe.
