Florida VOTE yes on 1 on tuesday!!

I am amazed at the amount of confusion, and misinformation that is coming out AGAINST the new homestead amendment.

IT seems that Charlie Crist and the Realtors are the only ones pushing for this while every other group is against it.

Lowering taxes and crating a more equitable tax solution for Florida is imperative, or we will be the first state to go bankrupt.  Just like all the 2000 homeowners in Manatee county that are in active foreclosure.

Who's going to foreclose on the State?

Creating an environment were people are encouraged to move to different homes, and encourage retirees to still consider Florida for a second or primary home should be our main focus.

It seems that are economy is made up of the RICH, who are here on vacation, and everyone else.

Prices of homes have dipped as much as 30% in the past 6 months!  The downward spiral in some neighborhoods is more like a free-fall.

For example, comparable homes on the same street sale prices from 700 in may of last year, last month I sold a comparable for 490,000!!

A great time for move up buyers, investors, and first timers, but we need tax relief, even if it is only a "Band-aid" for the HUGE problems the state is facing.

If you read this and live, or know someone who lives in Florida, please encourage them to vote yes on 1 for Tuesday.  I am sure that they are hearing lots of misinformation encouraging to vote no.

care to justify cutting $15 million out of education, possibly more? and cutting funding for police and fire/rescue? it's gonna save the average Floridian 240 bucks. woohoo. and i'm a lower middle class student. 240 is pocket change compared to the future of education.

How about all the money the state has already made on our property taxes over the last few years when our housing market was high and my property taxes skyrocketed along with my homeowner's insurance rates?  No one seems to mention that.  In my opinion, we are breaking even now where we should be.  For those posting above, are you a homeowner paying these higher property taxes?  Or a student thinking it will affect your education, because if you READ THE BALLOT, it states right on it.  "Property will be assessed at just value following an improvement, as defined by general law, and may be assessed at just value following a change of ownership or control if provided by general law. This limitation does not apply to school district taxes. This limitation is repealed effective January 1, 2019, unless renewed by a vote of the electors in the general election held in 2018."  Here is the link to the ballot for those interested:  http://www.votesmartflorida.org/mx/hm.asp?id=VoterGuide_Jan08_Amendment1

I would suggest doing some more research if you are uninformed.

So when has throwing money to the education department been the answer?  Maybe we need a different approach, like merit pay?

Education is not going to be helped more by getting a government that is more responsible for it's citizens.  Government current system has to be reigned in by the citizens.  240 dollars is not a lot of money, but it is a start.  I would have preferred to have Mark Rubio's proposal that would have ELIMINATED PROPERTY TAXES, and replaced it with an increased sales tax.  Property taxes are taxation without representation.  A person living in a Million dollar home does not use the roads, schools, or government more than someone living in a 200,000 dollar house, or a Student living in a rental home.

With thousands of MIDDLE class families LEAVING Florida, because they can not afford the taxes, insurance, and housing our state is becoming a place of the Wealthy, and everyone else.

By the way, the real value of the Amendment is the PORTABILITY option. This will create more revenue for the state, and the schools, because it would encourage people to move without losing their accrued SOH savings.  This would create more jobs, more tax revenue, and help get our Florida economy out of the recession that we are in today.
