Homes For Heroes - Giving Back to Those Who Make Communities Better

I have been trying to find a way to give back to my community through real estate since I got into the profession. Luckily as of this week, I have found a way to help those who help our community through a program that is designed to make home buying and selling an easier and less costly process.

I have teamed up with Homes for Heroes® as a Realtor® affiliate who can help certain workforce heroes who are buying and selling homes. My decision to become an affiliate with Homes for Heroes hinged mainly on the fact that my wife is an elementary school teacher, my brother-in-law is a Marine on active duty, my father is a public works director, and many of my family and friends are in the medical profession. I see what those around me do on a daily basis to make sure that our lives are lived comfortably and our children and familes remain safe. This is my way to say "Thank You"!

Who is Homes for Heroes®?

Homes for Heroes is a community minded company whose purpose is to provide real rebates and real discounts for workforce heroes* who are buying or selling a home. Our founders looked around and saw that many of the important people who made it possible for us to live in our communities could not afford to buy homes in our communities. So, instead of talking about it, we decided to do something about it.

* Workforce heroes include but are not limited to military personnel, firefighters, public safety officers, and other every day heroes who provide extraordinary services to the public every day.

What Does the Program Offer?
The Homes for Heroes program offers a 25% rebate at closing for home buyers towards their closing costs and for home sellers the 25% discount is applied to my gross commission.

Who can take advantage of this Program?

  • Active & Retired Military
  • Medical Professionals
  • Police Officers
  • Firemen
  • Emergency Medical Personnel
  • Teachers & Educators
  • Public Safety Officers

I am involved as well with my title insurance company here in Michigan... do you have any good tips and or advice to market this as I just teamed up with a realtor and mortgage loan officer. The Realtor has some great connections and is getting us in front of some great people... but, I want more... teach me your ways :)

Keith, since I am just getting started with the program, I plan to visit the VFWs and American Legion posts to introduce myself and see who I can help there. Next, I plan to contact the administrators at local schools to make them aware of the program and see if there is an opportunity to speak to the faculty at some of their meetings (perhaps bring breakfast or lunch). Another option is to visit USOs and recruiting stations for the militiary to see if they can give me any ideas on how to spread the word about this awesome program.

Another way to market the program (socially) is to find someone who is a member of local military facebook groups/pages to post a link to the information (mine or Homes for Heroes info) to build interest there.

A program like this takes some focus to make sure you remember to tell everyone who may be able to benefit from it. Good luck with the program. I hope these ideas may help.

Good morning Aaron -

I really appreciate the fact you are taking on this challenge and that you acknowledge workforce heroes including  military personnel, firefighters, public safety officers, and other every day heroes who provide extraordinary services to the public every day.  What an awesome way to pay it forward / back.

Thanks John. It is a great program and at the end of the day, I'm going to feel great that I have helped the ones who deserve it most. Have a great 2013.

Good commentary . Just to add my thoughts , people need to fill out a KY Exclusive Right to Sell Listing Agreement , my husband encountered a sample version here https://goo.gl/Wx5btY.
