I set my goals fairly high each year and push to increase them annually. I reviewed my goals last week for 2008 and was a little taken aback. I asked myself:
- What in the world was I thinking when I set these goals?
- How in the world am I going to accomplish these goals this year?
- Where am I going to find the energy to complete all these goals?
- When am I going to find enough time to even work on my goals?
- Am I crazy?
I then had to calm myself down and remind myself that:
- I set the goals because I needed to challenge myself into accomplishing more in my business than in 2007.
- I'm going to break down the goals into categories. If I have a goal of obtaining 5 listings over the price of $500,000. in one month . . .then I need to look at it as having to get 1.25 listings per week to accomplish my goals. That just sounds easier to do.
- Energy . . .one of my goals is to lose weight, sleep more and exercise daily. If I can break this down to losing a pound or less a week (instead of the total "Secret" amount I want to lose); start adding 15 minutes of sleep per night each week instead of trying to find 3 more hours daily to sleep; and, start walking daily and then build up to an overall workout routine . . . then it just doesn't sound like it's as difficult as I usually make it out to be.
- Having enough time always seems like an overwhelming problem to me. Again, I just need to put some disciplines in place . . . schedule when those disciplines are to be completed each day, work with a peer partner to check on each other's accountability each day, and to release some of the workload to others on my team.
- Do I have the goal setting crazies? I'm sure I do, but with added effort I bet I can make my goals.
In review I have to remember to break down each task. It's not 60 listings I need to take this year . . .it's only 1.25 per week or 5 per month. I think I can do that! I'll work hard on that concept.
HMMM . . .maybe I can meet my goals after all!
What do you do to put your goals in place and to successfully accomplish them?
