Richard Branson War on Drugs

LinkedIn logoLinkedIn consulted 50 people about their Big Ideas for 2013.  Each was asked:“What forces and trends will shape the business world in 2013?” ODAT Realty Services, Inc. will feature these leading edge interviews in the series Real Estate View of LinkedIn 2013 Big Ideas.

First is the interview from Richard Branson about War on Drugs. As a successful business person, he stated that any business run the way we globally run the war on drugs would be bankrupt.

Branson refers to the position taken by Portugal over ten years ago. He cites statistics about incarceration rates in the United States. He explains about a movie that his son, Sam Branson,  released in December 2012 on the subject called BREAKING THE TABOO. The movie, Sam Branson said, will “head to YouTube because of its potential to reach millions”. From YouTube, the film will be available without charge to anyone who wants to view or show it.

Real Estate View of LinkedIn 2013 Big Ideas1 asks what are the commonalities of the War on Drugs and Real Estate? Everything.

Starting with Safety and moving towards the National Economy, the War on Drugs takes on a prominent position. Safety is a major factor when a person considers where to live. How many times do our Clients ask “Is that a safe neighborhood?” or “What are the crime statistics for that neighborhood?”

or "I know this is Buckhead but is it safe for me to walk at night?"

If one starts from the perspective of the Real Estate View of LinkedIn 2013 Big Ideas 1, we may hear ourselves speak about the positive effect a stable economy will give us. As professional Realtors® assisting Buyers and Sellers as they want to change their residences, part of that economic stability is macro-budgetary. Voices are being raised about the way the US Budget is used to deal with the War on Drugs.

Branson’s comments are not a speech for or against drugs. He expresses his ideas about drug consumption by looking at what we are doing as a local, national and global society to combat the situation. He is looking on a macro scale at the issue. Each person has his or her own ideas about drug consumption. Each person may decide what to do in his or her own life.
