I was driving my daughter Rhiannon and her friend Amelia somewhere, don't remember where, probably home from the Spaghetti Factory.  In the back seat they were discussing wishes.  Amelia mentioned that when you make a really big wish, you have to avoid wishing for anything else for at least 4 months in order to give the wish enough power to come true.  They then told each other what their big wishes are.  Amelia - to end world hunger.  Rhiannon - cures for cancer and AIDS.  Not Hannah Montana tickets, not toys, completely unselfish wishes.  They're 10 & I am very impressed with those wishes.

What can we do to make these wishes come true?  Can we pick one thing we can change, do differently, that might help?  If we can be Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy & the Easter Bunny, why can't we do this too?  It might be overwhelming to see just the big problems, but I think if we pick one small thing every day to make the world a better place, that can only be a good thing.

What other wishes should we be working on?  Ask your kids & then share with us.  Let's make their wishes come true, at least as much as we can!

Chris- You should be proud of your daughter and her friend for making such unselfish wishes.

I love that you have to wait 4 months...there is some much truth in that because we change our minds all the time about what we want. Good for them, they sound like great kids!

Chris,

It is nice to see that there are still unselfish children that care about others.  It is so easy to forget about others in this "me, me, me" society.

You have done an excellent job in raising your daughter and should be very proud of her.

Chris, very thoughtful and unslefish of your daughter and her friend. You must be very proud of her, but I bet she got her thoughfulness and unselfish attidude from her mom.

Chris - from the mouths of Babes! I agree with the others. You have instilled a great selflessness in your daughter. How beautiful their wishes are!

Thank you everyone, I am extremely proud of both of them.  They're great kids... they haven't had to realize yet that wishing isn't enough and we have to act, but that's next.  That's why I feel the need to act for them on their wishes.  I don't know where Amelia got the 4 month rule, but I think that's pretty cute too.

How beautiful their wishes are is right...they are adorable, but really normal kids.  Being the grandma doesn't hurt of course.  Actually, they did do something really nice, recently she cleaned out 4 huge boxes of toys and games for the local Crisis Center for the kids who didn't get much for Christmas.  And, she sponsors a child from an underprivileged country and they rescue pets, and ....so I am really proud of my daughter, Chris, a single mom, and my granddaughter, Rhiannon, for being such good people and trying to make a difference in the world every day even when you have limited income you can do something.  The also recycle and are vegetarian and don't wear leather,,,humpff,,,going to be a way for me to catch up.

ANYWAY sure that some of you are doing these things everyday and just don't tell anyone the way I just told on them.  I would love to hear it, as my grandchildren all need to know about how to help others.

I'm a big believer of positive thinking. Example: if we think we can't we probably can't. So why not think we can! Network news agency's - are you listening?

Wow, Mom, thanks.  We did learn it from you!  (Terrylynn bought Rhiannon a book called Cows are Vegetarians which explains lots of environmental reasons for vegetarianism... boy did she hear it!  All the facts about why she shouldn't be eating meat... and she brought that one on herself!)

Dena - You've got that right!  At the math stations (3rd grade) last year, the kids kept saying, That's too hard, I can't do it.  I said, "Be careful, your brain might believe you."  They turned those comments around right away & joyfully!  Kids are soooo smart!
