ONE OF THE MANY REASONS I AM PROUD TO BE FROM THE WOODLANDS

Almost a week ago, our Nation was shocked by the events in Connecticut.  Our hearts will forever be changed by this event.  As the families, friends, co-workers, neighbors and more continue to deal with this, people all over the world are praying for them all.

I just learned today that the elementary school just around the corner from my home arranged a huge turnout of people for a very public prayer vigil.  Deretchin Elementary School is a school much like what I imagine Sandy Hook Elementary to be like.  A quiet neighborhood, good people with loving teachers.

More than 100 parents, teachers and students prayed during the 30 minute vigil on Wednesday.  The prayers that were lifted up were heartfelt, emotional and sweet.  Sometimes in the wake of something of this magnitude, turning to prayer is a powerful balm for the soul.

The Woodlands is a wonderful community and this is merely one of the reasons that I am so proud to be from this great place.  Our people that make up this town are the lifeblood and what shapes us and identifies us.  Our prayers are with those who were affected last week and we are proudly offering our public prayers.
