The wonder of millions of lights in Salt Lake City Utah

Christmas Lights

Salt Lake City UT may be a little cool after dark, but it holds many rewards.

If you have been Christmas shopping, you will have seem decorations and lights. these can be quite enticing.

For a change of pace, visit Temple Square and Plaza for a real experience of Christmas Lights like you have never seen before.  Water features and life size figures (as well as lots of sheep, and a  camel or three) add to this monthlong display.  Nativity scenes that portrat many cultures are everywhere, as well as a sound and light display of the meaning of Christmas.

I was there again last evening, along with thousands of others. Chatter from the visitors suggests that, as usual, this is an event of International renown. How many different languages will you hear?

Previously I had been there with falling snow, albeit  with no less people. The next few nights promise fine weather, but this is Utah in winter, so, who knows? Best to come prepared.  It is really worth your effort

TRAX provides an easy way to get to or from if you are in the Salt Lake Valley. Frontrunner is there to gather you from further afield.

It is truly a family and friends event. Turn up anytime after 5.30pm for the full effect.

The temple here in Bethesda MD also does a wonderful light display every Chrismas.  The Salt Lake display looks amazing.

Cindy - I found a Bethesda MD picture of the Christmas lights.  The tree winding looks familiar. Have a great Christmas.

Wow, all I can say is WOW.  It looks like it would be fun to take a child there and let them experience the magic of Christmas.

Larry, Great pictures!  I've been down to SLC temple area, but not during the Christmas light shows.  And even then, quite the international collection as the missionaries from all over the world were present.  Bill

Some local info:

http://www.visittemplesquare.com/events

Each year there are over two thousand events on the thirty five acres of Temple Square, and most of them are free to the public. From Exhibits and Galleries, Catering events, Concerts, and Films to Organ Recitals, Tours, Concerts in the Park, and Assembly Hall. Historic Temple Square located in Downtown Salt Lake City is a wonderful place for culture and the arts!

William - and "it's in my back yard" so I get to go as often as I like.

Joan - add in music, events and extensive daily choral performances by schools of the State (imagine choirs of a hundred teenagers in evening dress expresing their talent in extended performances, accompanied or a cappella, and you have a recipe for memories).

Dianne - sure is. Hope your Christmas is wonderful.

Ginger - make plans. Each year from Thanksgiving to New Year. Now, on impulse is good too.

Nancy - taking a child is always a great excuse to let the child in you out again.

Ryan - wherever you are, you can enjoy the spirit of the season by involvement.

Wayne - mine either. But when it is divided by the life memories of all the visitors I am sure it is well spent.

Michael - right on, mate. I first saw them in 2004, missed in 2005 (out of the country), and have been multiple times each year since. I have the advantage of living here.

Liz & Bill - you need to travel at Christmas time as well, even if it's a bit chilly. The young missionaries of Temple Square are from all over the world, even some from Australia, one is a granddaughter of a friend of mine from Brisbane. They are self-supporting and serve for 18 months.

Debbie - Utah and especially the Salt Lake Valley is my adopted home. Love it. It's a great adventure. I open my door, and I'm right here.

Richie - you put yourself in the right place to engage. People are happy to tell me where they are from: I am happy to learn. Great place to visit if there is some rain; then the paths have lights as well.
