For seven weeks, in the fall and winter of 1957, this tune was #1 from downtown Manhattan to Alcatraz Island. The smash hit was blasting out of AM car radios and, internationally, the artist had the first song to ever debut at #1 on the British charts. Ike was the President, back in the days when the country was less divided and a President could actually be popular, and nobody had yet heard of the Beatles. They were still just kids.
The performer of this smash hit is now a legend. The song was incorporated into the artist's third full length movie and the scene, which was choreographed by the artist himself, is the best known of any of the production numbers to appear in the artist's numerous movies.
