What is More Important? Points or QUALITY Content?

By
Real Estate Agent with Liberty Homes RS-#62825

A while back I wrote a post Making My OWN Magic in the World of Blogging and detailed what I do to be a successful blogger.

I have continued to believe that quality content will always outweigh my reason for blogging ---compared to POINTS.  Granted, the points we receive for blogging , commenting, reblogging and more have always been an incentive, BUT, it isn’t the reason why we blog.

With this in mind, writing for my local area (including businesses) and a variety of topics will be key to my business. It can range from real estate, stories of past transactions and even history in Hawaii that will always bring business, leads and a respect from not just our communities but from the ActiveRain Community.

If you are writing just for the points your content will reveal that.  So please, don’t ask about not getting featured or not getting any leads. It will ultimately be up to you and what you write that will make you a success in blogging…and the real estate industry.

An excerpt  from:  Making My OWN Magic in the World of Blogging :

  • Write with conviction and passion because everyone will read you if you do.
  • Write with original content and your own pictures you've taken because everyone will read if you do.
  • Write with wit, humor and emotion because everyone will read you if you do.
  • Write with the intent of giving back to the community because everyone will read you and give back to you and the community too.
  • Write with integrity, honesty and respect because everyone deserves it and so do you.
  • Write a comment or two relating to the post you just read (it shows sincerity) and everyone will continue to come back and read you too.

·       Write from your own thoughts and creativity because no one will read you if you don't.

I think you are right on Sally.  Quality content is number one.  The points are fun though.

Good content is the key Sally, and this post provides good info to bloggers both old and new.

Sally, What we write does reveal who we are. This includes the drive-by comments that are cut and pasted and often are not relevant to the post content. It includes the negative and/or derogatory comments that some people make. Thankfully those folks are few and their business will suffer as a result.  Points rank us ... the content and comments we write speak to our character and define us.

Quality content all the way baby. Points are just a fun side benefit but not the primary reason I blog.

I've given up in the search for points. I'm already high enough, and a few thousand here or there are not going to make any difference.

So, I just blog when I feel like it. Now, that's about 5 times a week down from 10 to 15. I comment just when a feel like it. That's about once per week.

I feel that I have a much better relationship with AR now, than before.

Sally, to an extent this applies to me..(though not for commenting or re-blogs). Looks like I have lost my creativity in writing something - or the original fear of my limited knowledge of English has re-surfaced. May be, 2013 will be a different year for my blogging.

Kathleen...yes, the points rank us....and so the same as anything, we compete to stay on top.  I am always mindful of that ;)  As for content...I'm getting back into the swing of things and blogging more the past week than I have in awhile. I went through my dry spell like anyoe else although I remained in the background...reading and keeping in touch :)

Praful...more than you know..your writing intrigues many...including me. So keep on writing. You may find interest in keeping a variety of topics in your mind. At times, I would just go around taking pictures and create a story around it. Your 2013 will be magical!

Good morning Celeste - as tempting as the points are, they're not what drives business. And if you're not doing this for business, what are you doing it for?? Great post!

Sally-Quality content always comes out on top on my list on importance. Points are a way to sort of keep score, but if the quality is low and no one reads the post and no exposure to potential clients, the post is not effective.

I've always felt quality is the key in blogging.  The folks who write the quick and easy blogs with little or no subtance miss out on the potential.  I've had several posts that generated calls because of quality - not just plain leads but "Hey, that's a good article" kinds of calls.

Points or passion....the debate goes on. Whatever the driving factor, your signature goes out there (?) Its like a cyber seed planted in space and where it lands and what happens is an interesting subject....thank you

Sally, I agree! In the beginning I believe everyone does it for the points, but after a while they realize it isn't just the points.

Sally: I like to write about something that has touched me that day. Sometimes I have to reach to get something. But it's always from the heart. Some catch the eye of the AR gods since I have been blogging more steadily. Always I try for something of interest to my audience, future clients or AR friends. Because I'm a comparatively new newbie as to some who started before me and have loads of points, I admit to writing for points as well.
