There are some older buildings in Miami Beach that make a statement, The King Cole is one of them. Built in 1963, it represents the MiMo style (Miami Modern) because of its concave shape where the views from the waterfront units are framed beautifully.

There are a lot of people that argue that the building was designed by Morris Lapidus, because its shape resembles Lapidus' Fontainebleau, but it wasn't. I am still doing some research to find out who the original architect is - if anyone reading this article knows, please feel free to jump right in and let me know. I even asked known architectural critic, Beth Dunlop and she confirmed The King Cole was not designed by Morris Lapidus.

Now to the details. The King Cole Condo has an incredible marina and you can see from this aerial that it accommodates big boats. The slips are privately owned, some are for sale and can dock up to 65 foot vessels. It is a full amenity building with:

  • heated pool
  • 24-hour valet-parking
  • gym overlooking the water
  • children's playroom
  • solarium
  • saunas
  • marina
  • doorman security

It is located on the Southeast corner of Normandy Island in Miami Beach at 900 Bay Drive.

What a beautiful scene.  I remember the Miami Beach waterfront well.  I think I once fell in love in Miami Beach.  Memories.

Beautiful presentation.

That really looks nice and it seems like an excellent price...I was expecting it to be higher.

Hi Lenn - the view is absolutely amazing (even on a bad day) - maybe you can come back to Miami Beach and relive those memories.  thanks for the compliment.

Moni - the problem with these older buildings is that they have to compete with dozens of brand new ones.  The prices need to be competitive.  This particular building had deferred maintenance issues but they have done a great job with the balconies and the finishes are still great.  Not many buildings have boat slips for 65' yachts either.

I recently sold a unit in one of those older condos in our area. You're right about the style of those buildings being shaped for better water views. That building looks beautiful and they've done a great job of positioning those boat slips.

What a commanding piece of real estate that sits on!  I thought that price would be so much more than it is.

Great presentation of this complex and the unit you have for sale.  Nice new Miamism buttons....

Lisa - and to think that this unit is and 1145 sq.ft. 1 bedroom unit is amazing - nowadays you are lucky to to get 1000 sq.ft. for a 2 bedroom unit in a new building.

Ann - thank you (I'm playing with the buttons) - the property sells itself, it really is a great building.

Ines, that is very very nice. I just saw your response to Rich, and I would have expected the price for one of those to be much higher than $269,900.

Hi George - I gues when you think "Miami" you think "expensive" - the condo fees are in the $700's but it includes electricity - super reasonable, if you ask me.

Ines, Talk about location...I can't imagine the views.  Or the prices, I thought it would be MUCH more expensive to live there.  What a beautiful place!

Ginger - thank you - the buttons I'm experimenting with, but I think they give readers an option to follow or not.

Carole - I can't begin to tell you what amazing energy these units have with direct bay views - the scenery is breathtaking.

Ines, that condo and it's location look spectacular. I can only imagine someone up north sitting in the snow staring at the blue water on their monitor.  Great job with the presentation.

Chris - I think the same thing - someone up north whose driveway has 2 feet of snow looking at the beautiful water images - Miami is a beautiful place without a doubt.
