Drive—A Motivational Book for 2013
My husband, who runs a private emergency medical service business, Metro West Ambulance is a national speaker and writer and is always looking for new ways to grow, stretch himself and motivate others. One way that he does this is by listening to books on tape (CDs). I happened to have heard about this new one called Drive from some wonderful ActiveRain person who mentioned it in a blog before Christmas. (I’ll be darned if I can remember who, to thank them profusely!) It really sounded incredible. So, I got it for him for Christmas. On the back of it, it says, “Forget everything you thought you knew about how to motivate people—at work, at school, at home. It’s wrong. As Daniel H. Pink explains in his new and paradigm-shattering book Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, the secret to high performance and satisfaction in today’s world is the deeply human need to direct our own lives (my hubby really enunciated this when he read it aloud), to learn and create new things, and to do better by ourselves and our world.
It goes on to say that Pink has drawn from 4 decades of scientific research, but it sure sounds like far more than science. He examines the three elements of true motivation and this book is bursting with big ideas. I suggest you watch this video. There are two sentences he asks us to ask ourselves: "What is my sentence?" and "Was I better today than yesterday?"

Now, isn’t that a great way to start the new year??
