Jerry and I LOVE Louisville - even in winter. Sure, it's cold outside and the skies tend to be gray this time of year, but you can always jump in your car and find plenty to do. In fact, this is our favorite time of year to drive downtown and take in a show. Clients who come to Louisville from other parts of the country are often amazed at how much culture Louisville has to offer.
Actors Theatre of Louisville is one of our favorites, and we have very fond memories of taking our children there as they were growing up. Through Actors Theatre our children grew to love the arts. It's a rather small and intimate theatre, and there's not a bad seat in the house. Each year they serve up a diverse array of entertainment, from comedy to Shakepeare.

Our kids also loved to visit Stage One, a professional theatre for young audiences and their families. Stage One is recognized as one of the nation's leading professional theatres for young audiences. Stage One performances can be seen at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. This enormous theatre is also home to The Kentucky Opera, The Louisville Ballet, and The Louisville Orchestra.

An absolute MUST VISIT is to The Louisville Palace. The Palace was formerly a movie theatre, and as beautiful as it was in its day, its recent multi-million dollar renovation transformed The Louisville Palace into an exquisite work of master craftsmanship. This historic building is said to be one of the most elegant and unusual in the country, boasting an enormous curved and vaulted ceiling featuring 139 carvings of Socrates, Beethoven and other famous figures. Inside the performance hall you'll see facades of buildings in baroque styling, and the ceiling is a "sky" of twinkling lights.

Since we live in Oldham County, we're just down the road from one of my very favorite theatres, The Little Colonel Playhouse. Located in historic Pewee Valley, this tiny theatre was started by a group involved in the Pewee Valley Women's Club in 1956. Now celebrating its 51st year, this theatre truly makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. When our daughter was very young she was fortunate to be in two plays. She absolutely loved being on stage!

Our home town of Crestwood in Oldham County is also home to The Oldham County Arts Center, "where the spirit of creativity sparks the artist in everyone". Relatively new to our county, The Oldham County Arts Center, once home to Crestwood Baptist Church has its own performance hall (the old church sanctuary), and events include everything from jazz to contemporary dance to improv comedy. They also offer classes for both children and adults in art, music, dance and theatre through the Arts Academny, the School for the Arts, Adult or Community education classes.

There are many more theatres, as well as museums, night life and wonderful restaurants to get you out of the house and keep you busy all winter long. With so many interesting, fun and entertaining things to do, Louisville has your cure for the wintertime blues!
