Lindenhurst NY Real Estate Update Since Hurricane Sandy

There were just under 200 homes on the market in Lindenhurst NY before hurricane Sandy. Now there are 182 homes on the market as of today.

Withdrawn Listings
This is when the homeowner decides to withdraw their home off the market. There were 48 homes withdrawn from the Lindenhurst NY real estate market. Five of those homes were south of Montauk Highway and were withdrawn after 10/29/12.

Lindenhurst NY Homes Listed Since 10/30/12
26 homes were placed on the market since 10/30/12. Seven of these homes are south of Montauk Highway. Only one of the listings stated the house was not affected by Sandy. Always do your homework to make sure the house you are contemplating buying didn't have major damage. Hire a home inspector that is also a structural engineer.

Under Contract Homes
23 homes in Lindenhurst NY went under contract since 10/30/12. Five of these homes are south of Montauk Highway.

Now, I have no idea how many homes have been condemned. What I do know is that homeowners that live on the water are planning on rebuilding. Living on the water is a lifestyle and people love it. Yes, some plan on leaving but most are staying.

On Christmas Eve I was told by someone that she spoke to someone that thinks there will be deals to be had in Lindenhurst south of Montauk Highway. This person really thinks that the area will be a ghost town. That will never happen. Rebuilding will take a while for these affected homeowners but that area will not end up being a ghost town. If you want a deal, buy an REO property, fix it up and flip it. Lindenhurst residents are proud of their homes and are not going to just walk away.

Jackie, my sister is south of Merrick and still struggling, what a shame how it has effected so many.

Jackie, my neighborhood went through much the same thing with the tornadoes as you know. After being hit three times many residents had enough and chose not to rebuild and yes there were deals to be had, but a majority such as myself stayed.

Hi Ellen, I'm sorry to hear that :( So many are as well. A lot of folks still haven't received money from their insurance companies. It is going to be a long road.

Hi Nick, I remember. I remember trying to get a hold of you also. There will be deals to have but not as many as some may think.

I can only imagine what Hurricane Sandy did to the real estate market, amongst other businesses.  Let's hope things get back to normal as soon as possible.
