Here's the 7th installment of GaGa for Google +.  I didn't want to post yesterday since it was Christmas and lots of people might have missed it.  Each week I'm providing some tips and a few key people to follow on Google +.  google +

This week's tips:

Fill out your profile - completely. I think we all understand how critical adding a picture is.  This should be the very first thing you do.  Almost no one is going to follow nor engage w/ a faceless user.  Plus, of course, your picture can tie to your google authorship. This is critical...but I'm assuming everyone has done that.

But don't stop there.  Add as much info to your profile page as you can.  It will help you be found, and more people will want to engage with you.  PLUS, you can link back to your website/blog and other key pages for some added link juice.  Even if you don't use Google Plus that much, at least fill out this info.  It will really help you.

To edit your profile, go to your page (just hit your picture and it will take you there) and then on upper right, you'll see a blue button that says "edit profile."  It's pretty self explanatory.  You can add info about where your live, what you do (be sure to add key words), pictures, videos, links to your website(s), links to your other social media profiles, pictures, videos.  You don't need to do it all at once, and you can continue to optimize many times.

Feel free to check out mine as an example.  Debbie Gartner About page on Google Plus.

The ultimate guide to Google Plus - free ebook.  Also, I finally got a chance to read Guy Kawasak's "What the Plus. Google Plus for the rest of us."  Excellent.  It's a free eBook now, so feel free to download and read at your leisure.  It's great if you are beginner, but it's even useful if you have been using this for a while.  I picked up several tips.  As you'll see from this post, the post has over 1,500 plusses and 785 shares (and that doesn't even include all the ripples/reshares of the post.  If you haven't already, you may want to follow Guy Kawasaki.  He is a great role model and wealth of info.

Who to follow:

Each week, I'm going to highlight a few people to follow - this week, they are not Active Rainers. but rather just awesome people to follow and interact with.

And, for others using Google +, please feel free to reblog this and/or create your own version, as well as leave a link to your profile in the comments.

  • Al Smith on Google plusAl Smith - Al Smith posts about business, online commerce, health/fitness and self improvement.  He has a well balanced outlook in life and his Google Plus updates.  Oh, and how can you not respect someone who graduated from the school of hard knocks?

  • Jaana Nystrom on Google PlusJaana Nystrom - Jaana Nystrom is a chief Google + Evangelist.  As you can tell from her picture, she is a lot of fun and has a positive outlook on life.  She is always posting fun, interesting stuff.

  • Al remetch on google plusAl Remetch - I've recently started following Al as I saw him interacting on Bill Gassett's posts, and I though he added a lot of value to the conversations. He does consulting on Google plus and SEO.  I've enjoyed his posts.  I think he's originally from Iowa, and I have to tell you that I really like EVERYONE I've ever met from Iowa.  (one of my best friends from my first job lived there).

  • G+ goto girl on Google plusG+Go to Girl - Well of course the Flooring Girl loves the G+Go to Girl.  This is the business page for Yifat Cohen where she provides advice on Google Plus and hangouts.  And, yes, I have seen some of her hangouts (and I love her accent).  Oh, and her charicature looks very similar to her in real life.

  • Jens Graikowski on google plusJens Graikowski - Jens wrote one of the best posts I've read on Google Plus, explaining how he shifted his whole strategy and approach on Google + in terms of who he was following (he narrowed the list) and what he was posting so that it was much more enjoyable and productive.  You got love someone who works at "This and That."
