Hi Mona...
I love the resilience of these tough plants. The live through heat and cold and drought and always seem to come through it all. I love to seem them blooming in the mountains in Summer, but there is a quiet beauty of the green leaves against the snow!
Good Morning Richard, they really are extraordinarily tough. I love that they keep their leaves throughout the year, no matter what the temperature.
Good morning Mona. What a bummer, the cold and the flu and you live in the south. Your pictures are always full of sunshine and I hope you and Leslie feel good, not just better, soon. Wishing you a Happy, Healthy and Productive New Year.
One voice told me "51", another voice said "pretty flowers" and yet another said "feel better soon Mona and Leslie"..............I listened to all of them! Normal?
Good analogy and hopefully just as the flu will pass so will the icy cold weather happening too. Hope you are feeling better soon. Happy New Year.
Sheila, we are on the mend...me quicker than Leslie but I agree there is a difference between better and good. I want to feel good.
Roger, lol. we need to pay attention to those voices and normally, I do!
Thanks Cindy, I loved the photo of the red panda.
Hi Mona - We have wild swings in winter temperature here as well - next month, we'll see a few sub-zero nights and a few days in the 70's. Our saving grace is 330 days of sunshine, so even when it's bitterly cold, it's a cheery bitterly cold.
Good Morning Mona, I hope both of you get over the flu. Cold weather does not help but when you are sick, it is not like you can both fly to a warmer climate and get warm up. Please take care.
Mona - We are experiencing colder temperatures in Southern California for the past few weeks. Please keep warm. Happy New Year!
Mona, I'm so sorry we sent that nasty weather your way. We had snow on Christmas Eve it was darn cold.
Hi Mona,
We have not been that cold here an we have not seen any snow yet. But there is a lot of it up in the mountains near and around Riodoso, New Mexico.
Have a great New Years Eve celebration.
Best, Clint McKie
Hi Mona, when we moved into our current home over 7 years ago there was this little rhododendron out front. During the first frost the leaves curled up and I had no idea why.. I thought it was dying! It's been growing beautifully though and you are right, it's one tough plant ... and so are you 2. This, too, shall pass. I hope you'll feel better soon!
Still feeling like the curled up leaves, but working hard at trying to blossom once again.
Hi Mona - get out of the cold and snuggle! Put your feet up, and try to rest....it IS freezing outside.. I jsut wish the pooches would know to do what they had to and come back in!
I don't know about the rhododendrens but 19 degrees and shards of icy white stuff would certainly make me whine.
Hi Dick, sunshine definitely makes the difference in how we tolerate the cold! Today was sunny, cheery and freezing.
Will, you are right...flying somewhere warmer isn't an option but we are doing better. Thanks.
Happy New Year John, I believe a couple of warmer days are on tap for us.
Belinda, I don't blame you for the weather!
Clint, I remember living in NM and seeing the snow capped mountains.
Andrea, the rhododendrens do look odd in the freezing weather but they come back year after year.
Leslie, it is pretty hard work too.
Gay, I have my sheepskin slippers on now.
Jill, the sun was out today so not so much with the whining right now ;-D
Hi Mona, Sorry you were al sick over Christmas but one thing is certain, your photo skills didn't suffer for a minute. The temp here at 9:00 PM is 41 and heading south over night. We are just not accustomed to temps like this and it feels much colder to us. Thin blood, I guess. Your Rhododendrons are more prepared then we are in CA, LOL. When Spring comes though, they will prove to have been totally resilient.
Hi William, Thank you as always. My mother woke to 43 degrees in Florida and there is a difference. 43 in FL or CA is like 23 here!
