The Seller And The Original 1957 Green Toilet
There is was in all it's green shiny glory...a throne fit for the king and queen of the household......the ORIGINAL 1957 GREEN TOILET! Yes, and one could snap this baby up for just a mere $300 buckaroos! The seller is so proud of this specimen, that they gave not one but five photos of all different angles of this porcelain beauty! I've seen less photos used to sell a home on the MLS!
I happen to come upon this great find while perusing the antiques section of Craig's List. Ok..I'll disregard the fact that this green goddess has been in place for longer than I've been alive by three years (hmm...maybe I have a three year leeway from being considered an antique), but to think its worth $300 and that someone will actually PAY that is just insane (my humble opinion).
Whenever I see a home for sale that says "original owners" in the description which is meant to be an asset, I see visions of this green toilet, orange shag carpet equipped with the rake, and the like. I imagine sellers just like these that think this green toilet is an asset to the home..at least a value of $300. I know they say they don't make things like they used to any more..and who knows, this baby might have the flush action that just might suck those false teeth from your mouth when flushed compared to the low flow ones of today. I DO know, that buyers today will look at that and wonder how much it will cost to rip that sucker out.
When you go to sell your Portland Metro home, please know that a green toilet is outdated in pretty much anyones standards today...especially one that's fifty five years old. Buyer's will usually over estimate the cost of repairs and updates needed and want to take this off the sales price.
The fine print in the below ad reads: "This toilet is original in our 1957 home. It's in great working condition with only a small piece broken on hinge of lid (see the last picture, hinge still works fine). We are putting in new toilets and are selling this one. Please e-mail if you're interested in taking a look."
*Note that I did not take the pictures and are original to the Craig's List poster.
