Hotchkiss, Colorado...The Friendliest Town Around. Hotchkiss is a small mountain community in Delta County. It's on Colorado's Western Slope. Population figures vary, but there are around 1,000 people that make up this wonderful mountain town. The location is perfect for outdoor lovers and for growing some of the finest fruit around.
The Hotchkiss, Colorado area is widely known for it's agricultural based economy. The elevation is about 5300 feet, so the days are hot and the nights are just cool enough to set the sugars in the fruit. Wineries and organic produce stands dot the roads. Hotchkiss, Colorado and it's surrounding area are bordered to the north by The Grand Mesa National Forest. To the south the North Fork of The Gunnison Rivers runs freely. These features make for excellent hunting and fishing opportunities. There are 300 lakes and reservoirs on Grand Mesa. The area also has hiking and biking trails, and downhill and cross country skiing aren't far away.
Take some time to explore the locally owned shops, and then you will get a true feeling of how friendly this little town is. The town's motto is...Hotchkiss, Colorado...The Friendliest Town Around.
