I'm not so sure...this laundry thing has possibilities....does it have to be THEIR laundry or ANY laundry???

I won't walk under a ladder. And I DID break a mirror a couple months ago.....so far so good!

For good luck and fortune for the year, many here adhere to the culture of having sashimi (raw fish) to eat for their celebration.

Whoa, that's a lot to think about!  I've always washed clothes on New Years, I like starting with a clean slate. Maybe I've never had black eyed peas fixed right but I don't like the texture however I love the group Black Eyed Peas. Some of my most treasured gifts and memories of my father have to do with gifts of knives.  The last words I ever heard from Dad just days before he passed away were "hello, sweetheart"...so the love was only stronger with or without knives.  The door thing I just learned about a couple of years ago, I had no idea how dangerously I'd been living up until then...but I liked the edgy feeling so I'm in and out of all kinds of doors. I'm with you on the black cats, Friday the 13th has always been a good day, I turn pennies over until they are heads up,I don't spill salt, we used to sell pretty patterned umbrellas so we'd open them all day long, I think evil spirits roam the earth daily in real flesh and the only thing that will conquer them is open hearts, tolerance and love.  Three sixes can be beaten with either a higher three of a kind or four of a kind.

You however, are one of the best people I've ever met.

I try to avoid double negatives at all cost.

I'm not sure if mine are superstitions or quirks.  I can't step on the yellow lines on the grown in parking lots.  That's a biggie.  I'm with you on the door thing.  I have to leave out of the same one I entered.  Period.  

Good morning Tammy and Happy New Year. I don't think I have any superstitions: really. I pick up pennies whatever side, I love all animals especially black cats and I eat anything I like whenever. I did enjoy the laundry thing though, never heard it before.

Hate the 6's, I agree on the penny one, too.  Black cats don't bother me.  Clocks stopping also give me the willies.

I know that your 2013 will be prosperous just because of you....and your menu.  Happy 2013, Tammy!

Not superstitious about anything but purchase agreements, and I won't share that here.

I am not superticious at all, but I do traditional things - we had pork and sauerkraut at our house today (and it was delicious!) because that is a Pennsylvania Dutch New Year Tradition!

We had black eyed peas today. It's a tradition for us. My husband comes from DC, but his earlier family is mostly from the south. BTW...in a lot of countries, the black cat is actually a sign of good luck. Check out this blog I did. That's little LB in the picture. LB stands for Little Black, or something else when she did bad things. She was a rescue.

Tammy - I've lived out West all of my life, so I don't understand the Black Eyed Peas, Collards, and Ham ritual, but would love to know what it means and what do you do if you don't eat ham?  I've been told not to give a watch as a gift it means your time together will come to an end.  I can't take the chance on it being true, so no more watches as gifts! Happy New Year!

I have a can of Black Eyes Peas in my pantry, does that count??  I hold money in my hands when the clock sticks midnight and we enter the New Year.  I leave the old year and enter the new with money.
