Can A Fire Department Rating Lower The Insurance For My Clayton Home?
Sure can, here in Clayton, North Carolina the fire department recently reduced it’s fire insurance rating and folks should see reduced insurance rates because of it.
According to the North Carolina Department of Insurance Consumers Guide, the location of your home can affect your premium. It goes on to say the distance of your house from a fire hydrant and the quality of your local fire department determines your fire protection class. These protection classes normally have a rating of 1-10 with 1 having the lowest insurance rates.
Recently Clayton’s Fire Department improved from a 5 rating inside the town limits to a 4, a significant achievement. Outside the town limits which is the Claytex Fire District the rating improved from a 5/9 split rating to a straight 5 rating. The split rating indicated a home that was within five miles of a fire house but not within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant would have a 9 rating, this is no longer the case.
Other local fire departments in the Clayton Area are Archer Lodge Fire Department which has a 5/92 rating which means that all property within five miles of the fire house receives the lower rating, and distance from a hydrant does not matter.
Check with your insurance agent if you live in Clayton or Archer Lodge and find out if you can save some money from the hard work and dedication these great fire departments have done to improve their rating. When buying a house in Clayton or in Archers Lodge its good to know if you can save some money on insurance, having a fire hydrant in your front yard may make you feel better but being within five miles of a rated fire house is what counts.
