Hello 2013
I drove all the way to Las Vegas from Palm Springs, California December 21, 2012 waiting for the end of the earth to arrive! What happened? We’re still here!
It was a five hour drive which gave me plenty of time to think about our world, as we know it, that would soon end. I thought back to the days before television, video games, cell phone, IPads, and texting. Those days we actually knew our neighbors, and we cared about them as well. Kids played kick ball in the neighborhood streets and mothers stayed at home to raise their children. Families ate TOGETHER and TALKED with one another during mealtimes.
We seldom locked our doors and often left the car keys in the ignition. If Mrs. Jones down the street got sick, neighbors brought food to her family. Many stores were closed Sundays giving employees time to spend with family.
Grandma’s home cooking was always a thing to look forward to on Sundays because children played with cousins and parents visited with siblings.
What happened?
As wonderful as technology is, it has also brought a separation between people……and that is so sad. Today, when you go out to dinner, it isn’t unusual to see everyone at the table texting on their cell phones or playing video games. No one is verbally communicating with each other anymore.
Perhaps it’s no wonder we see so many killings nowadays. Many people have become so de-personalized and de-sensitized. They really don’t seem to CARE about their neighbors anymore, let alone know them.
Perhaps the Mayans weren’t that far off when they predicted the end of the world AS WE ONCE KNEW IT.
