Someone will have to explain to me, that based on this revision how this is not a tax increase. The President campaigned on no tax increase to families making over $250,000. This will ne one of many tax increases to middle American.

George, good information! I don't think a lot of homeowners who are paying PMI/MIP are aware of this.
Joe, I would have to go back and see what deduction was before the extension but I think it remained the same.
Andrea, I was one of those people, and I did not notice it until Friday.
Barbara it will have an impact on both Conventional and FHA Mortgages, but the impact will be more apparent on the FHA Mortgages because of the MIP being a higher multiplier than the PMI.

Michael, yes it was only extended throw this year, so as it stands right now homeowners will be able to take advantage of the tax deduction 2012 & 2013 and then it will need to be extended again.
Michael I think you are right, it does tend to get overlooked.
I wish this got more press, so thank you George. I just had a prospect excoriate me the other day for suggesting PMI. He said his CPA told him to NEVER consider it. Turns out, he makes less than $100K....
Have a feeling that this is like so many legislative acts where many things will continue to pop up as the give aways increase and more revenue is needed.

Rob, it was one of those things that fell through the cracks, and I missed it until Friday, but glad that I was able to get the information out before homeowners start doing their taxes.
Dwight this is not a new tax deduction, just like the mortgage interest deduction is not new. They have both been around for many years, and through several administrations.
Joan I have not seen the entire agreement either so their maybe some things that we do not know about yet.
This is VERY good news for most people since they will see a number of their other deductions go away. thank you for the info.
Stuart, so far the Real Estate Tax Deductions have been extended, but there are other things that could affect the Real Estate Market that might not fair so well.
George - This is great news for those who are paying PMI, which tend to be those who had less money available for down payment.
