Murphy NC mountain fireplaces

These are some of the things we love most
about living in Murphy, North Carolina

Traveling the back roads here in Murphy NC, you just never know what you’ll find that catches your eye. Along Candy Mountain Road there is this little spot that still holds some memories of a home and family that once lived here on this mountain.

Still the yard is maintained and the split rail fence still in good shape. Its a lovely setting as you drive along the western NC mountains and here in Cherokee County. No matter the season you’ll always find beautiful and interesting sights!

These are some of the things we love most about living in the Murphy, NC
mountains and enjoying this small town
mountain lifestyle.

It really does, Kathy.  Lee and I both grew up in South Florida and moved to the NC mountains in 1997 and a new world of scenery and seasons. We never get tired of just driving around and seeing the ever changing scenery. Don't we just have the perfect job?

I'm jealous!!! I like the Gulf Beaches but prefer the Mountains.  Someday I'll be a halfback.

Lee and Carol, the photos is wonderful.  What a beautiful setting of the former home.  A reminder that a house is not a home until we cheris where we live.

I love this photo.  It's so amazing at the beautful things that are outside. I can imagine all of the fires and conversations that surrounded this fireplace.

Don't be jealous Mark ... come make the move to the mountains like us! I do enjoy visiting friends at the beach though, just can't stay too long and start missing the green mountains.

You got it Christina. A home is all about the memories!

Lee and Carol, it's always fun to travel the back roads. If that fireplace could talk, I'm sure it would have some good family stories. Nice Photo!

One thing you will notice is that when they built those old fireplaces, they built them to last. Remember that many cooked out of them as well as heating of the house. Its the core of the home..good post

The photo quickly brings up thoughts of time past. It looks lovely. That would make a beautiful place to build a home. Murphy, N. C. must be a wonderful place to live. I have heard many good things about that area.

Oh, I would love to hear some of those tales too, Michael.

Thanks Richie. Seems like everything they built back then was meant to last.

It is such a lovely setting, Betty. Murphy NC sure is our favorite place to live!

Lee & Carol, this reminds me of similar scenes on the back roads of Pennsylvania and Georgia. I'm a history buff and self-confessed house-a-holic, and these relics always spark my imagination with possible stories of the families that once lived there. Thanks for sharing this one.

You're so right, Elva. It's that spark of the imagination when you come upon these sights and gets you thinking of the families, memories and history made there.
