billy mumyWow.  I really had no idea I had been gone so long.  I haven't written a blog post in quite a while, if anyone has noticed.  I stopped chemo for the cancer in my lungs in late December.  Then, I developed a cough in mid-January.

It was pretty bad and it was getting worse every day; I am still coughing terribly.  I try not to freak out, but I was pretty freaked out.  My husband took me to the Mayo Clinic and announced that there "is cancer in her [expletive deleted] lungs!!!"  He likes to take a positive attitude.

Turns out, I have pneumonia.  No big deal.  Ha!  Kind of puts things in perspective, doesn't it?  I screamed "kick ass!" into the phone when the receptionist called with the results.  She is probably still freaked out about the girl who was so happy to have pneumonia.  So that's where I've been.

I planned on writing a great search engine tip today, but I stopped halfway through and deleted it.  There are two techniques that I use that I find to be extremely effective and I've never written about them here.  I do have one or two SEO clients per month (strictly word of mouth), and I use these techniques for them.

But I'm not stingy!  The problem is that I hold a number one position (Google) for a very important search phrase, using one of these two techniques.

As I was typing this, I thought:  What if the nine mortgage brokers beneath me-- for this particular phrase-- read my blog?  What if I go ahead and help someone who ends up knocking me down a few Google pegs?

I wonder what y'all think about this idea?  Is it smart for mortgage brokers or Realtors to write about their best SEO techniques when their competition could be reading and learning?  Would that be some cruel irony?

Yes, that's a picture of Billy Mumy.  I don't know why I put it up.  Probably because I love Lost in Space.  Why isn't Lost in Space on T.V. anymore?  And don't you dare say it's no good...

Karen - I used to love Lost in Space! I remember as a kid rushing home from school to watch the show.

I hear your dilema loud and clear. I often think about the same things when I post about a cool new site that I have come across. Some of these sites are really good, allow you to create an indexable profile and a link to your website and blog. Indirectly I am helping my competitors move up in the serps. I guess only you can decide just how good a tip it is. You can certainly email me with it :)

Hi Karen

I just got back myself not too long ago.  I had to reread your post 5 times to make sure I was reading correctly, and I must say it ruined my day :(  I'm sure things will go your way, as you are geniunely nice person and that counts for something.

As for sharing your "secrets", I say go ahead.  You can share factors and metrics of SEO, but you can't share the skill it takes to recognize real time situations in the ever-changing world of SEO and how to apply said factors correctly.

Lost In Space rules!  Every Sunday morning on TBS when I was a kid.  Not sure what Ted Turner's deal is with not running it anymore.

GET WELL!

Hi Karen, Kick Ass says it all for you, yes Good News , Glad you are feeling better, and perky. My take on others copying is this, if they have not done it now, it's not likely they will.

We (Victoria real estate board education committee)put on a Success workshop for our Board member every year. we find Realtor who would like to talk on different aspects of their success, such as Team Realtors and how they get along, Internet marketing Realtors and their web sites, marketing, etc etc. you know what? few if any copy them. it's interesting and everyone enjoys the program. You're you and nobody can take that away from you, in fact let them copy you and see how long they last, there is more to just SEO positioning and I'm sure your clients will attest to that!

If you still have reservation, how about a By Invitation Only, you can work one on one with anyone YOU choice!

Oh You Door mat is a huge success with my clients and other Realtors, it needs a little help when you have moment, nothing that can't wait, basically my Province name does not pop up any more, I suspect you already know.

Cheers, welcome back and HAVE A HUGE YEAR IN LIFE AND BUSINESS IN 2008!

PS: Karen I would love your option and suggestion on one of my web sites...Thanks!

Karen:

I am very happy for you. You will recover from your pneumonia. Lung cancer, it's a different scenario. I am glad you only have pneumonia. My impression as a newby in AR is that I found many, many bloggers that are more than willing to share their business secrets will all of us. I found that very altruistic.

Some of the most successful agents in La Jolla, California give seminars to new agents. They all share their secrets. When I asked one of them if she did not mind sharing these secrets and create competition for herself,  she replied that she did not think anybody would follow up the steps that took her to the pinnacle of her career. Food for thought.

Karen -

Glad you are back. I missed you everyday and we prayed that you were doing ok.  My wife and I have been fighting off breast cancer that moved into brain tumors for more than 5 years now.  She has the same attitude as you that she continuously "kicking it's butt".  She is claiming healing and that's what we are getting.  She is a true fighter and we enjoy every day.  So yeah, we did watch for you every day and REALLY HAPPY YOU ARE GETTING BETTER.

Don't know what I think, if I had the best info would I share it with my competitors.  I do lots of teaching, mentoring, and sharing, but learn a lot while doing that.  I am usually very opinionated, but on this one I'm not sure what I think.  Guess I need to think on it a bit more.

Hi Karen,
So glad to see that you are posting again - you are in my thoughts, always hoping you are feeling great!

As far as not giving out your best SEO tips, I would be disappointed, but I understand your dilemma.  You are my best source ever for information to move my site up on search engines.  I implemented your 'tip' to buy a domain name using a 'plural form'.  Now I am consistently on page 1 or page 2 of Yahoo and Google for 'myrtle beach property' a top search phrase.  I will be forever grateful for the information you so unselfishly shared and completely understand not wanting to continue.

yes, the nurse must have thought it strange that someone was so happy to have pneumonia. that's nice to hear :)

As for the google stuff.... I know what you are feeling. Sometimes I wonder why people are sharing the really good stuff. I would love to know what you're two secrets are. Maybe when you share them you don't identify which keywords you are using it for... I guess it depends on how obvious it is. I would assume you would rank well for arizona mortgages and you are trying for terms like that... but who knows maybe the word that gets you the most traffic is 'shopping for a mortgage in phoenix'. Just making up something.

The SEO thing is tough. I have a couple great techniques that I use, but since I'm in such a small market and do well in search engine placement (google hemet loans or hemet home loans) I tend to keep my cards close to my chest.

However, if you want to email your ideas to me...that'd be great! :)
