It's that time again! Vancouver. Green Drinks is getting revved up for the new year. My friends Terra Heilman, Laura Sauermilch, started our local Green Drinks chapter almost 5 years ago. They are taking a much deserved rest and my good friend Jill Sugrue is taking the reins.
Greetings Green Drinkers!
In 2008, Vancouver Green Drinks (VGD) was enthusiastically established by some local movers/shakers. Shortly after that, Terra Heilman, Laura Sauermilch, and Melinda Hinkley got involved. First Melinda and then Laura moved on, but Terra has generously coordinated approximately 55 monthly gatherings, 3 Check ‘em Off Green holiday gift fairs, and 3 clothing swaps. While she steps aside for a well-deserved break, Jill Sughrue will be joining Dave Hu in coordinating events for 2013 and beyond.
As one of 14 cities in Washington and 663 worldwide, VGD is a no-host and loosely structured monthly gathering to network with others who share an interest in environmental and social issues. Following a short presentation by a guest speaker on a topic of environmental, social and/or economic issues relevant to our community, there’s an opportunity to introduce yourself and inform others about upcoming events that might be of interest to them. We encourage everyone to invite friends and co-workers to keep the group evolving and growing organically!
So please open your calendar for 2013 and mark off the 2nd Tuesday of every month starting in March to meet for Vancouver Green Drinks at 5 PM! (For those of you who’ve been joining us for years now, please note the new day/time.) The venue will change so we’ll send out just two emails every month, one to announce where and who will be speaking and another short reminder. We’re also planning to mix it up a bit by alternating between east, central and west county locations.
Other plans for 2013 include a contest to design a new logo for VGD and a film series for viewing acclaimed documentaries.
For information as it is available, see our website. Please forward this message to whomever you feel might be interested.
Meet your VGD coordinators:
Dave Hu serves as a Fishery Program Manager for the Gifford Pinchot National Forest working to conserve and restore aquatic resources in the SW Washington and Lower Columbia River areas. Dave is a big fan of integrating existing resources into new and progressive ways of environmental and community service.
Jill Sughrue founded Sustain NW, LLC in 2005 to connect people with sustainability practices and principles. She is a project manager, sustainability adviser, carbon coach and workshop facilitator.
If you'd like to meet the organizers, we'll be at this event on Wednesday. See you there?
