This Sunday, as most all Americans know, is Superbowl Sunday!!! XLII = 42!Now I know that you may not be a football fan and that is ok in some parts of America. I know that some of you will be watching for the great musical performances that are lined up for this year's festivities. While it is true Paula Abdul will be featured in the pregame festivities, the American Idol judge will not be live. (Insert Joke Here) Instead her new video will be shown! I know, and I feel the same way, we love Paula on live TV, trainwrecks are fun to watch from afar. The actual Live pregame entertainment will be Grammy-Award winning singer Alicia Keys Alicia Keys So for those of you not interested in what those commentators, who are just hilarious and knowledgeable ask any of them, have to say, check out Alicia Keys.

There will of course be the Superbowl commercials that will hopefully have us rolling with laughter when we see them later on YouTube Commercials are for bathroom breaks, food reloading, and drink refreshing! We can't do any of these during the game!

Speaking of refreshments, what will you be having? There are of course the traditional Rotel Dip and chips (try it on pretzels for something different), salsa and chips, and just plain chips. Now that and some cold beer (soda for some of you) or a good mixed drink would make the day perfect. But this is the Superbowl so why not strive for something a little more. Here are some simple suggestions:

  1. Costco/ Sam's/ grocey for those pre-made party platters - meat, cheese, veggie, fruit trays
  2. Boston Market/ Picadilly Cafe/ grocery for those meat entrees and side dishes
  3. Subway for that impossibly enormous party sub (bet Jarrod doesn't eat these)
  4. Chili's/ Applebee's/ Ruby Tuesday's/ local rib joint for those scrumptious ribs or chili

Now right in the middle of the game is another opportunity to:

  • Get More Food
  • Get More Drink
  • Release Either or Both of the Above In Appropriate Facility
  • Watch Excellent and Insightful Commentary
  • Watch Half Time Show (details forthcoming)
  • Fend Off Age By Playing Touch Football In The Front Yard

And Now The Forthcoming Details:

This year the Superbowl halftime show is sponsored by Bridgestone and promises to be a great show. The oragnizers have lined up Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers This iconic rock band has been honored with 17 Grammy nominations and two wins; one in 1981 for Stop Draggin' My Heart Around and the other in 1995 for You Don't Know How It Feels. In 1989, Petty earned yet another Grammy as a member of the Traveling Wilburys for their albumn Traveling Wilburys Volume One. If you choose to watch the halftime show, remember you are seeing an icon of rock music, just don't drip that Rotel on my carpet.

Whether you like the pregame show, the game itself, the halftime show, or the postgame show, I hope you all have, well, a super...Superbowl Sunday! Have fun but be safe!

Danny - Thanks for the feature on your recap! I know there will be lots of blogs written on the Superbowl in the next couple of days, so I thought I would try to provide a humorous twist to the events that revolve around the it.

Hey Rich, I don't have to worry about dip spilled on my carpets this Sunday, we're going TO a party instead of hosting one (spill away!LOL!) I have a great spicy Taco Dip recipe and I'll be bringing hubby's favorite dessert, Strawberry Trifle. Of course you're rooting for the Patriots, right???

Debbie, Debbie, Debbie - I am a huge Colts fan Colts Homepage so of course I usually root for the other Manning Peyton! Half of my family is from Western Mass so of course the Patriots have great sway in my family. I went to Ole Miss where Eli was quarterback. Oh the complications, but I must move forward with le petite Manning, the former Ole Miss QB, thus I am rooting for the Giants! By the way, did you catch any of Brady's media day interview yesterday? Here is the Link check it out!

Rich ~ What a great idea for a Superbowl post!  I like your food ideas -  not sure what we are doing yet, but I guess we better decide soon.  We are also Colts fans, we are rooting for the "other" Manning!

BLR Guy -Chicopee Falls, Holyoke, South Hadley east to Springfield! It was great spending parts of the summer there growing up. Quite different from where I grew up the rest of the year in Memphis, TN. I prefer the warmth of FL as well; so do most of my "Yankee" or more appropriately "Red Sox" relatives who've moved to Florida in the past decade or so!

Kathy - Thanks for the compliment! I knew that starting this week, there would be a lot of "Superbowl Blogs" and I wanted mine to be a little different. The other half of my family is from Eastern Indiana and Western Ohio! Richmond and Dayton to be more precise!

Oh Rich, Rich Rich, don't make me sign you up for the "Tom Terrific Fan Club"! LOL!! I understand your loyalties being torn (but you DO like the Celtics, right?) The media day, what a hoot! Love the wedding dress! Poor Tom!

Now back away from the rotel and try my spicy taco dip, I posted the recipe this afternoon.

Linda - I can't wait to meet you as well! It should be a lot of fun!

Since the Cowboys aren't in it I'm going for the Patriots, but don't really care, just like the commercials...and they weren't even that good last year-maybe this year will be better.

Cindy -The commercials are always entertaining. Romo will come into his own, he just needs a season or two more. Hopefully TO will quit whining, he is a great WR but the whining gets sooooooo old!

Debbie - I used to live in Ft Myers, Florida where your Red Sox and the Twins both have their Spring Training! It is a great place for both Spring Training and Minor League ball! I am not really a basketball fan, how are your Celtics doing this year (they are most of my family's favorite team)?

Debbie - My father and uncle are huge Celtics fans! Glad to hear they are having a good season. While I like the American League Red Sox (except that traitor Johnny Damon, even cut his Captain Caveman hair, to flee to the dreaded Yankees), I am not a fan of the DH. I do of course root for my hometown Atlanta Braves and despise the Mets!

Rich, yeah, we don't like those players that go over to the dark side! What is the DH? (remember, I'm a girl....) You're in a great city for all kinds of activities. The Braves are great. We have friends with season tickets (and have used their Falcons seats), I should check on baseball. It's an 8 hour drive to Atlanta but just an hour by plane.

141,514 Points 1 Featured Post Outside Blog
Debbie - <<<smile>>> The DH stands for designated hitter and is only in the American League. It is kind of like a stand in batter for the pitcher. You know the pitcher's are delicate and in the American League they usually have a couple of ringers (think Jason Giambi of the Yankees) who bat in the pitcher's place. In the National League the pitcher has to bat unless he is being taken out of the game altogether. I had season tix to the Braves last year (weekend passes, Saturday & Sunday as the weekdays are too busy) but this year I am going to pass as I ended up selling or giving away about half of them last year! The drive doesn't sound like fun at all but an hour plane ride is a piece of cake! Let me know if you decide to come for a visit!

Rich! Thanks for explaining. I've heard the term but always assumed (crap do I tell you this?), that he was the next batter in line! I didn't realize they were protecting the pitcher! I know, I'm showing my ignorance!LOL!

Rich, It's good and you should check facebook out  (I even post my listings there) The kids think it's cute that their parents are getting into their technology (and I am so not technical). There are a lot of AR members on facebook.
