How windy is too windy?  Maui gets hammered by high winds this week.

Haiku Maui HI - While we were very lucky to have a calm and clear New Year's Eve night, the wind picked up on New Year's Day and hasn't stopped howling since then.  Our wind turbines are cranking out the juice and the batteries are sizzling with extra power.  It's a great time to catch up on all things requiring a heavy load... and that includes staying up late with all the lights and devices on.

Kapalua Maui HI - High winds and drenching rains put a damper on the PGA Tour's Hyundai Tournament of Champions over the weekend, causing postponement and a shorter match consisting of only 54 holes.  Dustin Johnson ended up with the title at the Plantation Course at the Kapalua Resort.  This was the first event for the 2013 PGA Tour.

Makawao Maui HI - High winds knocked down a number of trees causing road blockages and other inconveniences.  County crews are working hard to clean up all the debris.  Eucalyptus trees may be beautiful, but they are really a nuisance.

Ulupalakua Maui HI - The Auwahi Wind project went online in the last week of December 2012, on time and on budget!  This new clean energy farm will be a great boost for Maui, with an estimated 10,000 homes being powered by the wonderful Maui wind.  I hope this week's strong winds aren't too much for them to handle, although it may not be so windy in that location.
