Manahawkin To Host Governor's Town Hall Meeting -
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has scheduled a Town Hall meeting in Manahawkin Wednesday, January 16. While there is no agenda for this or any Town Hall meetings, local officials and residents are looking to discuss Super Storm Sandy clean up efforts and rebuilding.
Residents are wondering where and when the money is going to come from for rebuilding, and officials are looking for state assistance with clean up costs which in Manahawkin alone have exceeded $20 million. There have been no estimates yet on the needed clean up of Stafford Township's lagoons.
Manahawkin is not alone. In Tuckerton, FEMA has estimated the Borough which has an annual operating budget of $3.9 million suffered damages totaling $3.6 million. Officials in Tuckerton are figuring they will see a $2 million reduction in tax revenues following the storm's destruction of rateables.
The Governor's Town Hall meeting will be held Wednesday, January 16th at St Mary's of the Pines Parish Center on Bishop Wayand McKinley Avenue. The meeting, in the Parish Center gymnasium, will begin at 3pm the doors will open at 2:15. Seating is on a first come basis.
