Now...How clever is this.  I have heard of this product but never had the opportunity to talk with anyone that has actually used it.  Glad that you are successful with this.

None of the text in this blog article was typed by me.  I can type pretty fast but are many times when I just don't feel like typing a blog. Just by chance there was an offer to buy voice dictation software at a really good price during Black Friday. I bought a copy and have been ecstatic ever since.

What are the advantages of using voice dictation in blogging?

  • Comments and blogs are done three times faster
  • I tend to make longer comments
  • I can write more blogs in a single sitting
  • I can write many more comments
  • What I write comes across more like my voice than my writing style

Let's address a couple of the key advantages of using voice dictation software in your day-to-day blogging.  The two biggest advantages are speed and quality. Because you're speaking you can dictate comments in blogs roughly 3 times faster than if you were typing a professional level. Since most people don't type that fast actual dictation performance is probably much higher. I just dictated this paragraph in about 30 seconds.  The other advantage is quality and let's talk about that in more detail.

How does diction software improve blog and comment quality?

Using dictation software allows me to post longer comments with more detail and a better expression of how I feel that if I just type in a quick sentence or two. To me that means I'm offering better value to the people who took the time to write the blog in the first place by giving them better expression of what's really on my mind.

Blog quality increases substantially because I can sit here and effectively write (was "right") just the way I speak. Having that style of writing that matches my speaking means my inner voice comes through much more clearly. I find that this means I can say more with richer wording than just trying to type slowly and work it out as I go along.

What do I get and where do I get it?

My recommendation is to buy Dragon Naturally Speaking home edition.  The current software package includes the actual software as well as a headphone set that allows me to listen and dictate with improved accuracy. It's available on Amazon.com for only $50. Given the amount of time that I've saved using the software it was well worth the expense.

Ginger, I have thought about using Voice Dictation Software for things like blogging and commenting, but to me, it just doesn't fit into what I do, and how I express myself.

I just really feel it is part of my blogging, my writing and creating, to be able to see my own printed word on the screen, and have those words appear on the screen after leaving my poor tired brain, and actually, physically traveling down my arms to my fingers and then to the keyboard.

I know this is going to be seen as a silly comparison, and I am in no way comparing myself to an Impressionist painter, but can you really see Claude Monet dictating where the brush should go while he "painted" one of his many masterpieces?

Noper.  Me neither.  There is just something in the "feel" coupled with the "visual" of it all.  I think it's just that different people have different personalities, and what seems right for one would not seem so, for the other.

I don't know if you Bryan is at all familiar with the MBTI... The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, but I am an INFP.  I am guessing that Bryan is not.  If I were to guess, I might say that he might be an ESTJ.  Google the two them, and see how they compare.  I would be interested in what you have to say.

Hi Ginger - Thanks for reblogging this.  This topic has gotten a lot of interest from the AR community.  Many seem to like the idea as an alternative to typing.
