I can't complain, I have already won the highest prized lottery when I managed to get to US.
This was not my first winning jackpot. When I was a 19-y.o. college student, it happened that in a local movie theatre I ended sitting between Olgas on each side and one behind. Somebody told me that something good will happen, and it did. I married one of them (she is behind me). There is a believe in Russia that if you get with three Olgas, you better make a wish.
I guess one of the reasons was that Olga is not the most popular name in Russia, and a chance of ending with three in one place is rather slim.
Here in the US it is either Olgas are immigrating in disproportionate numbers, or I am simply lucky in running into them. I suspect that my son-in-law thought at one time that the majority of Russian women are called Olga.
My wife friend's name here is Olga (she was on a cruise, so did not make it to the farm).
Recently in a local marketplacewe met a wonderful Russian couple from Ocala, Michael, and, of course, Olga (she is on the right). They told us that there is a farm not far from Daytona, and that is where you can get the best navel oranges in the world. And we went to that 16-acre farm in Pierson, FL. It is only 35-40-minute drive from Daytona. The lady running the business was from St. Petersburg, Russia, and as you could figure it already, her name was Olga. (She is on the left).
Picking oranges is fun. The trees are overwhelmed with this sunny fruit, and your bucket is filled within minutes. They also have all kinds of grapefruit, lemon, lime, mandarin. There are two ponds. They grow and sell Tilapia.
The lady, running all that business- Olga Cunningham, is what people sometimes refer to as 'Mail Order Bride'. Looks like she is a happy one. Bill went to St. Petersburg and brought her here 7 years ago. They are raising two kids. Bill works at a boat building enterprise, and Olga takes care of everything else.
Interestingly, after a life in a big city, Olga is quite content with living in a farm, she is upbeat, cheerful, optimistic, and you often hear her laughing.
My plans for this year are quite serious, and me sitting in front of 3 Olgas is an attest to that. And as an instant gratification I got the best Navel Oranges in the world (and they are) for only $5 a bucket.
I do not see why my way of dealing with a declining market is any worse than others. At least it is much sweeter.
If you are not far from Pierson, FL, ask for the address. The oranges are guaranteed, three Olgas are not, but hey, start with one.
