Top 10 Things To Do Before You List Your Long Island North Shore House

By
Real Estate Agent with The Top Team @ Charles Rutenberg Realty 255 Executive Dr, Plainview NY 11803

With the New Year, many people are making that big decision to MOVE. If you are thinking of selling your North Shore Long Island Home or Condo early in the New Year, this can be one of the very best times.

Inventory is low and buyer demand is increasing steadily. If you are thinking of selling and want to get the best price as possible, it's time to start evaluating what will make the difference between a house for sale and your house SOLD

Confused where to start?

Here are Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff's Top 10 Things to Do Before You List Your Long Island Home:

1. Clean, Clean, Clean ~The easiest and no cost project is that you can never clean enough. Nothing turns a buyer off more than a dirty, messy house.

Clean Your Home To Sell On Long Island
2. De-Clutter ~ You may like your many years of collections, but buyers probably won't. The goal is to sell your house, and buyers cannot see it as "theirs" if your stuff is all over the place. A decluttered home also shows potential buyers that the sellers are serious about moving and ready to go.

3. Paint It Pretty ~ A gallon of paint can do wonders, and remember that neutral colors work best.

4. Organize Your Closets ~ Cleaning the house by squeezing everything into the closets won't work. Buyers will look behind the doors.

5. Turn On The Lights ~ Check lighting and make sure the bulbs work.  A dark house is notSell Your Long Island Home inviting...so lights on!

6. Depersonalize ~ It's time to take down the family portraits, the refrigerator magnets and all the sports memorabilia. Having personal memories of you and your family or your hobbies, make it very hard for potential buyers to see themselves living in that space.

7. Replace ~ Your dirty old ripped carpet or your leaky faucet should now be replaced.

8. Always Be Ready To Show ~ Your house needs to be "show-ready" at all times. Don't leave dishes in the sink, laundry hanging around, dirty towels in the bath, or dust bunnies hiding in the corners.

9. The First Impression Is The Only Impression ~You won't get a second chance to make that first impression. Your home is on "stage" and must perform at it's best every time!

10. Call Your Favorite Realtor ~ You will get a higher price for your home without the added stress, especially if you call Realtor's
Larry And Sheila on The North Shore Long Island!

Plus, fix the front door, trim you shrubs, clean the garage, get rid of odors, and to make sure it's show-ready...Stage It. The money you spend up front could save you months of disappointments if your home sits on the market too long.

If you do the above items, and remember to price it correctly ( the number #1 way to get your house sold quickly) then your house will be way ahead of the competition. In a buyer's market, every little thing you do makes your home more appealing than the house for sale around the corner and will make your house "Ready For Sale" this Winter!

De-clutter...Depersonalize...Clean, Clean, Clean!

Larry & Sheila, I love #9, and also many sellers forget about the front door area.   While we are fiddling with the lockbox, the buyers are looking around.    Make sure cobwebs and leaves are gone!   Call Larry & Sheila to get the job done properly!

Larry and Sheila,

Great advice as always.  Clean should really mean deep down clean.  We looked at a house that has a rental tenant in it.  It was clean, but not deep clean.  Stove top looked clean, but if you really looked, yikes...A

Larry and Sheila, great advise most sellers want to wait until spring but the first of the year is an excellent time due to low inventory levels and pent-up buyer demand.

Larry and Sheila, these are all extremely important tips when someone is trying to sell their home.  It should be included with EVERY listing packet.  For our own home I keep a little paint in a mayo jar in the kitchen and a little brush.  When I see something, it's gone gone gone.

Larry and Sheila that is a nice list and important tips. Too many sellers are not given any tips or feedback and it shows. Have a great weekend.
