Generators - New Homes Newburgh NY

Are You Building a New Home in Newburgh NY?  Why not install one from the start?  Builders Are Now Pre-Wiring Homes... It does not cost much to customize your home with a generator that can give you piece of mind down the road.

Newburgh NY Storms

Recent storms have left many people very concerned about power failures  in the Hudson Valley. The unprecedented destruction has cost many people thousand of dollars in damages. Snow and ice are not kind to power lines as well as wind and can take down trees. Power outages caused by natural disasters in the last few years have increased in severity. Storm damage being more extensive leads to longer time for repairs. Owners are more concerned now than ever.  They are looking to prevent damage their home and keep the family safe. Builders in the area are very much aware of these concerns that many looking to purchase a new home would have.

While nobody knows what the future will bring, the  alternative to own a generator is an option. Many people have taken steps in their current homes to ensure the safety of their home and family members should the need arise. When building a new home the cost to install a generator can be much less expensive. The builder can install all the wiring and proper hookups so that if and when the new owners decide to they would just hook up the generator. No complicated process involved.

Some builders in the area already include the hookup. It is part of the cost of the new home. The additional expense would be to purchase the proper size generator. The process is so much easier this way. You decide early on how much power you would need and this will help you to gauge the size of the unit you would need to purchase.

The prices for the actual generator will vary depending on the size of the home, and just how much power you will need to function in your home. Be sure to consult with a professional to learn how to use the generator. Your builder can recommend what size unit he recommends based on the installation of the hookup.  Be responsible when using the generator.

Once you purchase the actual generator be sure to test it out before the bad weather. It will make for a much better transition if you should need to during an actual storm. Always ask questions from a professional to make sure that the unit will be used properly. Guidelines to follow can be found here from FEMA.

Good to know what to do if a storm comes along. Maybe our weather will be more gentle in the future. It would be great to have this option in your new construction home. If this feature is something that interests you let me know. I can make sure that your new home is ready for a future storm.

Janis- after some of the hurricanes we had here several years ago many homeowners installed the large home generators.  The builders who plan for this option for their buyers are smart to do so.

I think this is a very smart addition to the new homes, especially with all the bad weather happening all around.

Kathy.. the builder that prompted this post was pre-wiring for years... with no requests. Now it makes him look good and I have been marketing this feature. With all the storms we have had recently people are thrilled to get this feature

Smart!  Debbie's family in Alabama all bought large generators after the past couple of big tornadoes in their area took out all power for many, many days.

An ounce of prevention is always a good idea.  And, what a great feature to include in a custom built home!  Nothing worse than thinking 'coulda/shoulda/woulda' in an emergency.  And, nice to have some peace of mind when preparing for the unpredictable.

Janis what a valuable post, it is always an issue on the East Coast, there are people who are on Oxygen and if the power goes out they need to have a generator and how many do not...how sad! It should be a requirement to have not an option...just thinking out loud..

Kathy.. the builders are happy to install it and the home owners are thrilled the wiring is included

John.. if hooked up properly they can be wonderful..

Carie... Very true!! A great feature to have installed and then you can decide after when to purchase the generator itself.

Endre.. Thansk so much.. It is a  great feature to have. New buyers are surprised to find out and quite pleased.

Hi Janis, what a great idea for builders to include these generators-particularly in the northeast given the wires that are all above ground.  What a great winter photo-I feel the cold from it and wish we had some snow!  Reblogging this and suggesting!

Great blog on proactive building, Janis.  With storms like Sandy as "the new normal," we can assure you from the 2nd responder perspective that a home or business with power -- new build or old and antique -- are far better served for comfort and safety, than those of us who waited in the dark and cold for electric last fall.  Good tips!

If hundred year storms are going to be showing up every fall, then it makes good sense to be ready.

Interesting Janis, never had someone search for a house with a generator but it is a niche market...

Ginny.. while nobody seems to be searching quite that way, when they start looking and it is pointed out to them, they do get very excited that it is included. They start ruling out other new homes in favor of these.
