IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T GET A DONUT…
TRY…TRY AGAIN
We were communicating around the water cooler the other day and it was mentioned that it was my fault that we had so many donut shops in Alvin. While it is certainly not my fault; but it may have started with me.
It all started when I was hankering for a donut. So at my break I requested to leave the building and go buy one. When I got to the donut shop they said they were all out of donuts. I was devastated. When I asked when will the next batch come out? They informed me they only made one batch daily. They went on to say they always sold out early. GREAT.
I asked why were they open if they had no donuts and they responded with, the men like to gather here to drink coffee and visit. I was so mad. My hips certainly didn’t need another inch but I rarely buy sweets and I wanted just one donut! So back to the office I went.
When I got there I was still upset. The workers at the store were so matter of fact. They had an attitude which conveyed we are the only donut store in Alvin, so there is nothing you can do about that…and you have to deal with us if you want a donut! The more I thought about it I wondered why they were the only donut store in Alvin.
So I did the next best thing. I called my nearest and favorite donut establishment which is Shipley’s Donut and spoke to the manager. I asked him how we could bring a store to Alvin. He told me the all of the stores are franchised and the home office handled all that; and provided me with the number.
With number in hand I called the home office and spoke to the correct department and asked for a store to be built in Alvin. They said they didn’t have any franchised applications but as soon as they received one, they would see if that person would like to build in Alvin.
Within a year we had a brand new Shipley’s Donut Shop and since then they expanded to two owned by the same owner! That has been about seven years or so.
You may think that two donuts shops are not too many for a small town with a population of 24,774. SIX is the actual number of shops in Alvin and none of them are hurting for business.
Business that is a great word. So just like Real Estate if you can’t help the client they will go to another Realtor and get the help they need in your “territory”. If that donut shop would have had donuts they would never have had the completion they do now. Think about that as you go about your Real Estate Day.
