a welcoming home

Dustin's Active Rain blog entry about his Rain City Guide interview of Kristal Kraft is getting lots of comments from Active Rainers (on RCG!!! see Dustin's note about points... he's doubling points and they can be redeemed at Starbucks*) include Craigs:

10. Craig Schiller - January 17, 2007

"Great work... by both Dustin and Kristal.

Kristal was the first person to ever comment on my Active Rain blog. In that comment she welcomed me. That "welcome" really made me see what was possible in blogging... connecting to an audience. So for that I am grateful to Kristal.

Since then Kristal has been a leader and a great person to observe and learn from as she evolves in her own mastery of cyber space and personal marketing.

Do you remember who left the first comment on your blog? I did not.

Go to your Active Rain's blog's Archive (lower right corner), go to the first month, go to the first entry, go to the first comment.

Q
. Who was the first person to comment on your blog or to welcome you to Active Rain?

In my case it was Kristal Kraft.  Kristal commented and welcomed me to Active Rain.... Thanks Kristal

*Dustin is not doubling points, you can't use AR points at Starbucks...who would believe that?.. and you can't use them at Nordstroms for shoes either.  Dustin wrote: "Prove to me that you don't leave comments on ActiveRain for the points by leaving your comments about this interview on Rain City Guide! :) "

TLW was the first to comment according to my oldest blog.  I never actaully got a welcom to AR though.  I checked my 2nd post (a featured blog with 44 comments) and no congrats on the first star or welcome to AR.  Things have changed a lot since the beginning days of AR... now that the seniority have learned how to use the system more effeciently and effectively, we are able to make the comments of welcome and congrats on the first star more frequently.

Maureen - You were the first to leave me a comment.  But I'm guessing you were just so excited that I finally started blogging...

It was you, of course!  But I also got comments on that post from Matt Heaton, Craig Schiller, Teri Isner, Alex Harb, and others.  I don't know if any of them realized it was my first post.

I had already met Kristal in the comments of one of your first blogs where the now infamous discussion of points and shoes came up.

Wrong Don... Nick M. commented on your first blog before I did. And he recognized you as a newbie and welcomed you...  It was a very funny comment as I recall (I recall it from looking earlier today... not from when you wrote your first blog which was end of December..) Something about a great blog should get a great comment but he did not have one?? I thought I had done a Welcome Don Fabrizio-Garcia entry but I did not... I tacked you on the end of Glenda Cherry's welcome post.... I guess because I thought you'd never start blogging... you are a natural.

Blanca: You were the first one to welcome Dustin Luther, in a comment on his first Active Rain entry although at first it said his name was Dusin Luther.  I thought it might be someone else who entered it as a joke with those short, quick entries he did at first....

Maureen F: WOW I will have to go look at what you said on your first blog to get comments from  Matt Heaton, Craig Schiller, Teri Isner and  Alex Harb.

Jason: I think you are right more people are welcoming newbies as Active Rain gets bigger, Mark Flanders, Rich Jacobson, Kristal, Maureen F. and many other Active Rainers are trying to say hi to newbies.  Colleen K's Week in Review did a good job of introducing newbies.

Life is too short to be serious all the time... Turns out ARers didn't follow my request anyway... and we're currently tied at 30 comments on the ActiveRain post ABOUT the interview and on the RCG post featuring the interview... Too funny.

I've never seen a RCG posts with sooo many comments that were so positive...  I almost feel bad for each person that feels like they need a new adjective to describe the word "interview".   After great, excellent, wonderful, nice, fabulous, and terrific, people started running out of adjectives and started reusing them!   LOL!

Dustin: You didn't expect us not to comment on Active Rain did you? Or to not say  the interview was great, excellent, wonderful, nice, fabulous, and terrific.  And that we worship the ground that Kristal walks on. Well we would worhip it if it was not snow covered and slippery now.

My first blog post was on 9/3/06, and it was someone not part of AR who was the only person to comment on that post. My 2nd post was the next day, and Dawn Shaffer, Roberty Murphy, Becky Miles, Crystal Pina, and Christopher Smith all commented on it that same day.

MM ~ Back in the olden days (July '06) I posted 5 blogs before someone finally answered.  Jason Ungos made a comment, it wasn't a welcome, but a simple comment.  Later that day Angus and Eddy Martinez commented on another blog.

First very first blog still has no comments. The second blog MF commented on it 3 months later!

Sharon Simms picked up on an early blog 15 days after I posted it.

In the early days comments were very hard to come by.  We didn't get notified when someone made one, so you would have to go back and look for comments.  Conversation was non-existent or very slow.

Kristal, ~ I'm feel so sorry for you; you seem so sad and neglected!  Don't worry, I fixed itIt's good to be loved!  Although you weren't entirely neglected, you came back and commented on your own first blog, which is fitting because you ARE the welcome committee!

Yes that's right folks, Kristal Kraft was the first (and only) person to comment on my first blog.  Thank you Kristal!  I felt really honored that a bag of chips like you would take the time to comment on my blog.  It really made my day :)
