The old adage that men can't follow directions is wrong!
Why do I say this? In this age of GPS, it is easy to find almost any address, as long as its urban. When you go to the nether regions of the MLS listings, you find a world of confusion and very poor directions to some listing properties. I find that some agents, never attempt to follow the directions they give others to find their listings. How can you tell? Just try following their corrections!
Case in point; I attempted to set up a logical path from home to home so as not to confuse my clients. I enlisted the help of google maps and the directions given on each listing to set up the tour. Then if at all possible, I try to drive the route to find each home. I admit to having to think twice about right and left but last Saturday I discovered an agent who could not have ever been to her own listing.
- Every turn was backwards. If she told you to turn right, you better turn left.
- The house is on the north side of main street, it was on the south side.
- Park on main street. Main street is a four lane, busy road, with posted no parking signs in either direction.
This is why I like to drive my route when possible before I put my clients in my car or have them follow me.
To complicate matters, when you go rural, many of the roads are not marked. My GPS only shows major roads. If the only thing you have is the directions given on the listing by the listing agent, you better hope they are right or you may find yourself in a whole heap of trouble.
I try to contact the listing agent when I find errors in the directions however some agents don't return phone calls or they disregard your corrections. Are they libel is something should happen to an agent and or their clients while following said directions?
What do you do when you find the directions on a listing are wrong?
