This past weekend was a busy one for me. I spent time taking my daughter to a birthday party, toured homes with some great clients, and became CPR certified through Health Educators, Inc. Although I was certified several years ago, I let my certification run out and found myself in need again due to a volunteer position at my kids elementary school. I wasn't particularly looking forward to the class since the last one I took was, well, so very sterile and boring! This class was NOT.
Health Educators Inc. sent several experienced, personable staff members to teach our class and they were very knowledgeable. During this CPR training in Richmond VA we learned how to perform CPR on adults, children, and infants. In addition, we cultivated skills in the best practices for assisting a choking victim and how to effectively use an AED machine. During the 4 hour class, we watched a terrific video demonstrating each step and had plenty of hands-on participation using life-like mannequins.
After asking countless questions and running through some real life situations, each participant was tested on their new skills and I was thrilled to yet again earn my certification. I now feel more confident in my abilities to react in an emergency situation, however I hope I never need to put them into action.
