I wonder if the government could force lenders to forgive late fees and set home owners up with new intres rates that are fixed and not bad for the home owners who need it. Over look credit and start the owners who already have a mortgage that are in a struggle get on tract. It would help out everyone because the owner will not lose there home owner ship, The lender will not have to short sale or foreclose and lose all that money that ends up being a lot of money and it would help the home owners who are doing good because they will not have the large amount of foreclosure effecting the value of there investment. Also lenders could have hassle free help for owners who just seem to make wrong decisions. Some people will say it's there fault for making wrong decisions which it very much looks that way but when some people repeat and continue do make wrong decisions it may be a little more then that it could be a illness or a brain miss fire and they need help or some sort of guidance. I may be all wrong and it may be an idea that most will find to be dumb. But in just about every case for people who get behind it is  a snow ball effect that gets bigger and bigger. Any lender or debit collectors answer is to add late fees well the snow ball just got even bigger and now that bill may get paid but with the late fee it made another bill late so it will now have a late fee. This may help some and some will just do better for a while then head back down the road they were on, but others will do what ever they can to keep there self together if they just had some help other then when will you pay they may pull threw. I may sound elementary for I am a Realtor and not any way a writer it was just a thought I had in one step towards a solution of many needed ones

Someone has got to do something or there are going to be a lot of homeless people in the streets.  Not everyone facing foreclosure is a victim of a 'bad mortgage;' illness, layoffs, outsourcing, and downsizing are factors.  Not to mention the cost of gas and electricity have raised fuel, heating and food costs so much people are struggling.  I can't believe banks would rather foreclose on a home, let it sit on the market and get $0 month instead of working with home owners to get a lower interest rate or at least partial monthly payments.

I agree with you Jennifer and I think if these lenders helped it would help save people there homes and the hole economy. It may not people the sole solution but it is a start in helping everyone in this crisis and not just one person involved for everyone is in one way or another

I like your blog but it's not really on the right track when it comes to being honests and accurate.I do believe that the mortgage companies should work with people and if anythign make the payment structure half of what it is and let peopel breath for a year at least at that point people would be making some kind of paymetn and the banks and lending institutions would be getting something instead of nothing. anyway you can go the other way and say this about the realistic view or angry view point of the situation, is much more grave than that and you haven't even scratched the surface of the overall picture here. Let me give you another view point. Let's say for instance that maybe all those lenders that put the people in those houses with all those different loans, some being inteerst only loans, were to hold some of the respoinsibility for the people that ran into problems with the ability to pay their mortgage. Lets not forget the other thought that goes along with this, alot of those loan agents knew going tinto those situations that some of their clinets might not be able to keep up with the payment and instead of prcticing good business ethics they just went for the gusto and sent those people into meet the sharks. This problem isn't because people don't want to pay their bills it's because the became victims of loan agents that scammed them and got paid and now the victims are suffering and slso the mortgage companies are suffering and this is all creating a ripple effect that will eventually if not brought under control bring problems to the government. Even though the government is allowing all this to happen with their efforts of baling fannie mae and freddie mac out it's all too little too late. Now with all these vacant houses there will also be no property taxes being paid either. So is it a mental disorder or is it a matter of having faith and trust that the people you are working with are actually being hoest with you. A great deal of people put their faith in real estate agents and loan agents and were scammed. Lets go back to interest only loans for example if you have and interest only loan say at $4000.00 a month for an average sized house, you are recieving basically nothing for your money, other than an extravagantly overpriced rental because at 12 months you pay $48000.000 for that year. Well you can rent a home for much less at the same size, now what is wrong with this picture. Do you see anything good about a scenrio like that? if you do or you try to explain it, then you are trying to cover something up with dishonesty. Oh I wouldn't want to upset anyopne but the reality here is that there are many people out there in a bad position and they should not be. I am also one of those people, however, it jsut means that it is a wake up cal for me, because there are people out in the United States that are being exploisted because they trusted someone with a smile and an honest face when they should have looked at that scenario and said nver trust someone who smiles and tries to talk you into a financial deal. Never trust a loan agent or a real estate agent who doesn't tell you exactly how much they are making for helping you purchase or sell your home and never trusxt a loan agent who doesn't disclose the trusth about how much they are making when you sign a deal with them. I do beleive that the government should get all or as many loans in foreclosure or about to be foreclosed on and have them examined to rewrite laons so they can be affordable loans. At least that way people would be able to make their payments taxes would be paid and the ripple effect would cease, and it would actually correct itself. Of course there are the absolutely ultra rich that are capitalizing on the current situation and they really don't want this to stop because it provides another vehicle for them to jsut basically rape and plunder/pilage, whatever you want to say. At the end of the day the ultimate responsibility falls on the government for allowing these raketeering style of loans to be written to actually happen so where is their responsibility in all this. The only reason I ran into this problem was because there was a death in our family and we had to foot the bill. Wow the irony you think that when someone dies some of the problems go away but they just compound. If I were to run for political office the first thing I would do as part of my platform would be to take a 10% to 20% paycute and have that moiney go back to the city county or state depending what office I were to run for. This abomination of the politicians being able to vote for their own pay raises is just that an abomination and should never have been allowed to happen, they have contributed to this problem and they stand there with their smiling faces and never really worry about the people anyway. We the people do not vote politicians into office they are brought through an electoral college we are jsut being appeased with a false image of what is actually happening, that should have become very clear when we voted for Al Gore and it was still taken away from him. We the people were scammed and lied to and we did nothing and nothing was done. It is time to start questioning what is really going on?
